Re: TRP: These Ides Have Seen A Lot Of Loves...

I'll second this. Pump Station has really good food and brew.

Nice to see you opted to hit the Biergarten. I hope it wasn't overloaded with hipster clowns for you.
Nah, it was a pretty reasonable crowd, a few hipsters, a few soccer fans, a few rugby fans (the last game of the Six Nations was Saturday), a few Cornell fans (besides us), a few Union fans. And it really was our lucky day because liters were buy-one-get-one-free for their one-year anniversary. Wish I had the spare cash to go back up this weekend, I'd definitely go back there.

Re: TRP: These Ides Have Seen A Lot Of Loves...

That is quite a burger. While I was in Albany last weekend I made sure to go to the Pump Station Brewery/Restaurant to get their Pump Station Burger, which is a nicely sized burger where the ground beef is mixed with their house-brewed brown ale, scallions and cheddar cheese, and then topped with bacon, pepper jack and chipotle ranch dressing. It is SO GOOD. Their beers are pretty good too. If anyone is in Albany for the regional this weekend, I highly recommend it.

Hopefully their website isn't an indication of their establishment.

(though the burger sounds phenominal)

Wow. That's an incredible deal and I would've been in trouble there. :o

Website is NOT indicative of the place. Yeah, they could stand to use some tech help there. Typical Albany.

I can't even imagine 2-for-1's at Gasthof's. JFC, I'd be dead.

You would have to plan that one FAR in advance - train with beer on the previous weekends, get lots of sleep, then lay down a nice solid base of food before starting on the liters.

Or, well, die. :o

Can't be done. The second beer would be warm before you could even start in on it. They'd have to hand out carnival tickets or something. And after four liters you'd need a catheter just to keep your bladder from exploding.

Unless that second beer is best served at cellar or warmer temps. I mean, Guinness is still good at room temp. Dunno about the kraut beers, but I bet there's one or two out there.

Or better yet, you and a friend just trade buying rounds. :p

Why you gotta go and be sensible about beer drinking? Since when has that ever been a priority?

British ales are decent at room temp, many/most meant to be served that way. German bier is best when refrigerated.

1. 'cuz it's beer.

2. Yeah, I know that much. Didn't know too much about the non-common German ones, though. Although I will say the Dunkelweisses are decent at room temp (or near it) still.

A Dunkelweiss is good at room temp because it started cold and it's strong and taking you that long to drink it. :p

IIRC, German beers are served chilled, but not as cold as a typical American beer. (I think the cold is to mask the American lager's taste.) So it doesn't really take much to get it to room temp.

Re: TRP: These Ides Have Seen A Lot Of Loves...

Hi everyone. Nice to see you all survived F5 weekend. Sorry I missed it, between work and the baby, I'm out of touch with the world.

If you're in the MSP and interested, I'm hosting an NHL tweetup/Wild viewing party/NCAA West Regional viewing party at Campus Pizza on Friday night. I'll be handing out random NHL merch. Hopefully it's not crappy.

By the way, if we're serious about a bar in St. Paul, I'm interested and would be willing to work on a board of advisers, and act as the director of public and media relations and social/digital marketing. One can say that I have a little experience in that area.

That sounds like it could be fun. I may show up, I don't have anything else going on Friday night.

and...****, if this bar idea takes off and actually happens, because a group of us goobers said "der, lets open our own bar!" on an internet message board....I don't even have words as to how crazy that would be :p

Re: TRP: These Ides Have Seen A Lot Of Loves...

I have a better idea. Since the bar would inevitably fail, why don't you take all the money that you'd have used on the bar and just give it to me? Thanks.

Why don't you give me half the money you were going to bet, then we'll go out back, I'll kick you in the nuts and we'll call it a day!

I am dead serious about it. I've always wanted to have my own bar. This is a step in the right direction. :)
