TRP: The Speed vs. Comfort Conundrum

Re: TRP: The Speed vs. Comfort Conundrum

The second time ctf got pulled over, I texted Brent about it and he posted
Correct.

Freshmen year in the dorms my roommate and his friends used to smoke pot in the room next door to our room all the time. They were pros with the towel at the bottom of the door and the box fan in the window. If I remember they did shrooms a couple times too, and thats when they convinced one of the guys I was a crystal meth dealer. He called me to try and get some. Hilarious conversation. :D

I went in the room once and they had their light bulbs switched to black lights and had stuff drawn all over the walls with highlighters. They even went to one of the labs with plotters and printed off some stoner posters. Good times. I miss the dorms sometimes just because of the entertainment value of dumb people.

Don't forget the "exhale through a toilet paper roll stuffed with dryer sheets." ;)

Re: TRP: The Speed vs. Comfort Conundrum

Not surprising, my philosophy professor used to wax poetic about the cost of a lid of pot back in the day.

A certain sociology prof at Tech is the same way (Techies know who I'm taking about ;)). Frequently, his musings and rantings went way beyond pot.

I remember the semester that I was in his class, and he claimed that heroin is not a damaging drug.

I never took sociology at tech.

Ugh. That was a required course at SCSU. It was taught by one of the three most arrogant professors I've ever met and it was one of only a small handful of classes taught in an auditorium. In fact, he was the second most pompous * of a professor I had. The first taught World Cultural Music, or some BS with a title like that. Had the music class not counted as a multi-cultural, multi-gender course, it might have had five students for the term rather than the 200 in my section.

It always dumbfounded me that the professors who taught the most useless subjects were always the biggest jerks.

Re: TRP: The Speed vs. Comfort Conundrum

I would not have either, until I heard stories about the funny opinions, rantings, and quotable moments of Carl Dassbach.

my sociology professor called my dorm number half way through the semester looking for me to do math tutoring for his kid... I suppose ethics goes out the window when you're concerned about class struggle... especially when I was taking this as a 2nd semester senior and I was hiding my political standpoint to survive with a grade.

While I'm sure not all my professors were stable I can't think of any real good stories... one history course I took the prof would like to role play as historical figures every once in awhile... though I thought he was a good guy (I knew what he was doing with it and it wasn't like he was out of his gord... though I don't think you can pull that with immature college students.)

My Jazz Studies teacher would often show up hungover to class, as he was in a bar band. That class was awesome to begin with, and he definitely made it more interesting.

Pretty sure my jazz professor showed up stoned once for a concert.

There's a calc professor at Tech who does Civil War reenactments on the weekends. Sometimes he'll show up in full gear and offer extra credit to anyone who attends.

He also once forgot to take his cordless mic off when he went to the bathroom during a quiz, but that's a story for another time.

My HS American History teacher did those re-enactments, and even brought in some saltbread (? whatever it was called) once. It was nasty. Though, thanks to him, I find the Civil War pretty darn interesting, more interesting than the World Wars, etc.

Re: TRP: The Speed vs. Comfort Conundrum

My HS Biology teacher would tell us stories on how he used to do cocaine and climb hotels like Spiderman. He would also walk into class and start acting like a monkey....jumping up on tables, crouched, making monkey noises. Everything short of flinging crap. Which he probably would have done if it wasn't a private school...:p

Speaking of crap, there was a teacher at my high school that crapped in a paper bag and gave it to a student. Needless to say, he was escorted out of the building and fired promptly. :p

Wow, I didn't actually think he did that. Makes sense when you think about it, but still.

Hardtack. And it is nasty, yes.

And one of my HS history teachers had a loooooot of stories about being a bouncer and breaking someone's face, chewing tobacco and drinking a lot of "Pepsi" (he went to St. Cloud State), and going on spring break and getting hammered. Not so many about illegal drugs though... that was the art teacher (who got busted for smoking pot with his students.)

Re: TRP: The Speed vs. Comfort Conundrum

Freshman year of high school, Brother Pat was my World Cultures teacher. He was a seminarian (went to a Jesuit high school) and on the first day of class, he told us that "just remember that even priests had lives before they took their vows". He brought in pictures of his retreat in India, his years living in a loft with 10 other people in San Francisco (including some drug stuff in the background), and talked about partying with the other young seminarians at the local bars (apparently the collar gets you free drinks).

Re: TRP: The Speed vs. Comfort Conundrum

My Honors English 10 teacher frequently spoke of her "hubbly bubbly". It took me until February to figure out she was talking about her bong. Then, in May, I figured out what a bong is.

Yeah, I'm a bit naive.

 Wow.

And my pops has a hookah, but swears it was only for real tobacco. Given his (then) political leanings (they've only changed in the last 5 years or so), somehow I believe him.

I remember one time he told our class a story about a Jamaican musician he happened to know from back in the day, and how this guy would roll these huge blunts and start getting all philosophical. Someone asked him if he ever partook and he said, "Oh no, no...I never inhaled!" At the same time, I was thinking, "Yeah right, Mike." ;)

Re: TRP: The Speed vs. Comfort Conundrum

I'm sorry, but the following clip is still one of the funniest I've seen, due to the hypocrisy/irony/whatever it is, of the final line that is delivered (NSFW):
