TRP: Summer, come now!

Re: TRP: Summer, come now!

Me either, since I started working. I don't technically work in finance (all our clients are in finance, though), but we work that day too. We get New Year's Day, MLK, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Used to get 3 weeks of vacation and be able to carry over 2 weeks, but now I just get 3 weeks plus 3 "personal days" and we can't carry over any vacation. OT is expected and unpaid. I think I have another 3 years before I get an extra week of vacation (that would be at 15 years). Reading this, it kind of sucks compared to others. :p
You've been at that company 12 years? That's impressive. My longest tenure with one company is 7. My current company I am up to 5 years.

yep. I am still at my first job out of college. I remember when I started, I said I couldn't see myself still here in 10 years, but I kind of settled in and realized I liked it and was good at it, so - still here. It satisfies my love of detail-oriented problem solving and my intense hatred of paperwork.

Re: TRP: Summer, come now!

I get 25 PTO days and every federal holiday.

That's about what I get, also.

And FIIF!

Re: TRP: Summer, come now!

Holidays: New Year's Day, Patriot's Day (but only because my office is at the finish line of the marathon - our office and our Hopkinton office are closed but we have to work Columbus Day, all other Mass. offices are closed Columbus Day), Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas. I get 25 FTO (flexible time off) days, plus 3 personal days. You can roll over 20 FTO days but not Personal Days. I've been rolling over 20 days every year for the last five or six years. So I pretty much have 48 days that I can take off this year. I won't, but I could.

Re: TRP: Summer, come now!

I earn 20 vacation days and 13 sick days per year; I can roll over 30 vacation days and an unlimited number of sick days year-to-year (so I have over 80 sick days banked now - this more or less serves as a safeguard against short-term disability).

As far as federal holidays go, I am required to work two major and one minor each year. However, due to being on a compressed schedule, I opt to work all of them / receive no additional time off for them if they fall on my built-in off stretch. This way I'm guaranteed to be paid double for every federal holiday whether or not I actually work it.

As a taxpayer, I would like to thank you personally for finding ways to scam the system.:p

Re: TRP: Summer, come now!

Do you know how many days where it was 75 degrees at 9 in the morning it took me to remember that I hate summer? One days, that's how many days.

It was 48 when I got in my truck this morning. 75 would have been nice.

It's not scamming the system. They have to compensate me for holidays that fall on my scheduled off stretch since everyone on a conventional schedule is either working the holiday and getting paid double or is getting a paid day off. Due to the low staffing level on my shift, it's easier for the government to simply designate one of my shifts as 'holiday worked' and pay me double than it is to give me a night off and cover it with OT (which would end up costing them more money than simply paying me double).

Re: TRP: Summer, come now!

So, Tylenol and alcohol. Will it actually **** up my liver? Or is that only a concern for people who have multiple drinks every day?

Acetaminophen - liver damage if 3 or more drinks each day while taking it.

So you should be generally fine if you are just having a drink or two and not every day.

Re: TRP: Summer, come now!

So what idiot decided to hack a college hockey message board in May?

I'm guessing a bot. Apparently, according to Quiz (from Ed T), only the front page of the forum got hacked, but I did hear of people having trouble accessing the site in general. IIRC, it was about 11:45 when I last saw it up, and then between midnight/1am (closer to midnight) it was dunzo. Immediately went to change all passwords everywhere, though, just in case.

I don't think I could think of "everywhere" I had to change a password. I changed it here and then changed it again this afternoon.

I was thinking that if it had my password here, since this site requires an email address, which I use for other sites/etc, I better change everything. If the hacker had access to my email, it could have access to those other sites (including financials) using my email history and such. Even though I have multiple email addresses, better safe than sorry, you know?
