WOLVERINES!!!

Given how many people root for Minnesota or Wisconsin or UND or BC despite not having gone there, I'm not sure why Michigan is particularly worthy of being singled out for it.

Because Walmart Gophers/Badgers/Sioux/Eagles doesn't work nearly as well as Walmart Wolverines does.

Re: TRP: Holidays and New Years Resolutions

I think it somewhat has to do with the plethora of licensed merchandise for Michigan that is very obviously from Walmart. There's also the fact that Minnesota/Wisconsin/North Dakota only have one major state school, so they don't have to deal with a little brother's resentment that nobody that didn't go to their school cares about them.

Hockey wise, that is kinda true, but not really. :p Minnesota has SCSU, UMD, BSU, Mankato. Non-hockey-wise, North Dakota has NDSU AND UND. And MN could include Concordia and MSUM...

Can you point out what's wrong here, note the bolding? ;) :p

I'm gonna have to agree with goldy here. Major=completely D1 school (even though hockey is the only sport that matters )

Well, major has completely D1 as a prerequisite. After all, Oakland University is "completely D1" (in sports that they offer).

Exactly, it's all about the alliteration.

Fans of college football and basketball (the 2 biggest sports for most college fans) have typically heard of both Michigan and Michigan State. If I wasn't a college hockey fan, I couldn't have named another college in Minnesota or North Dakota.

Now, who has a picture of Twitch in his awesome Walmart Wolverine shirt from last year's CCHA's? He had taped the Walmart receipt to the shirt, and I believe the back had a sign which read "it's better than cheering for Tech" or something like that.

I always found it funny at school when all of the Wal-Mart Wolverines would root for Michigan until NCAA basketball tourney time, when they would all suddenly jump on the Michigan State bandwagon for a month.

If that is what it takes, the only "major" school in North Dakota up until this year was NDSU, not UND. :p
