It's Father's Day.
While I have mixed feelings about today, I am grateful for the men who came along and became Bonus Dads. The ones who have treated me like their daughter. The ones who routinely show me what healthy masculinity is supposed to look like.

I love you too.

Hey Amber Marie,
It's Amber Marie. There's been a whole lot of feelings this week. You've gone from depressed to angry and resentful to guilty to ashamed to grateful and relieved and back around again. This emotional Tilt A Whirl is going to kill you. And you know it.

What can you do differently, Amber Marie? The last four or five years have been hell for you. Even when you had stable housing and employment, you had significant injuries, one of which required life disrupting surgery. Thankfully, the surgery actually worked this time and you are back on your feet, literally.

Here's the thing, princess. It's going to take more than spite and classic Amber Marie willpower to fix this. You need outside help and support. Maybe call Network 180 and try to get a case manager and a supports coordinator. Conservatorships and guardianships don't always end up at a Britney Spears-level of hell, especially if the guardian is someone who's proven themselves. Remember how your Mom did it! No false pretenses, just love and the desire to do right by her people.

And you used to take stock in a certain book. It definitely wasn't "The Berenstein Bears Watch Too Much TV." Although that book was a classic. Anyway, that book said stuff like "lean not on your own understanding" and "what's easier to say? Your sins are forgiven or take up your mat and walk?" You've heard a lot of "your sins are forgiven" and have shut down most talk of "take up your mat and walk." Give it up, girlie. You need to stand up and do something.

"Take up your mat and walk" means building a home for you and Greyskull.

"Take up your mat and walk" means having a steady job and working a side job until you get your debts mostly cleared. Except your student loans- those are forever.

"Take up your mat and walk" means eating at home instead of constantly ending up in the Wendy's drive up or at the Meijer fried chicken counter. Prior to the advent of C-19, you were obsessed with cooking. You were posting your meals for the week and your seasonal meal goals. Your baking goals too. You can get some of that back.

"Take up your mat and walk" means realizing while you've made progress, you need to keep going. Remember, "mediocre" is translated as "middle peak." Someone who got halfway up the mountain and decided that was good enough. Are you gonna stop halfway up the mountain? Or plant the Mama Bear flag at the top?

And "take up your mat and walk" means standing in your own power. You are surrounded by pageant winners, endurance podium finishers, the owners and show runners of at least two drag companies, the entire crew at Rumors, an entire pack of feral queens from Kalamazoo, pastors, former board chairs with OOTL, and the supervisor team at DABSJ. Ahhhhh, Miss Sam, Jules, and Meghan. But how much more magical you would be if you stood in your own power for a change!

You'll be okay. I know you will.

I love you.

Amber Marie.

Four years and five-ish months, that’s how long it took for my daughter to cut her own hair for the first time. She has now been rewarded with something hat looks to be a cross between a bowl cut and a page girl cut. There went her ponytail aspirations.

 :)

I really hate my neighbors. They've been launching fireworks since 430pm and at the rate they're still going off have no intention of stopping before midnight.

My two dogs are absolutely beside themselves despite being Trazadone'd three hours ago.

I had to surrender Greyskull because of current circumstances.

His foster Mom tells me he's become a father figure, letting them in his cage and playing with them until he reaches his limit. Foster Mom assures me that once I get back on my feet, I can have him back, unless someone comes through and adopts him first.

I'm so proud of him.

Finally tried Duke's mayonnaise. It's fine. Not terribly distinguishable from Hellmans. A bit fattier.

I'll stick with Hellman's.

Anybody here ever go to Nelson’s Ice Cream when they’re in St. Paul or Stillwater? I’m pretty sure it’s just a more expensive way to get the flavors of Kemp’s that you can’t find in the average grocery store. Still, it’s fun to order “a double scoop” and they come back with towering stack of scoops.

Speaking of mayo (uhhhhh....), I recently tried kewpie mayo. I got the Japanese version (apparently there are very slight differences between the US and Japanese versions). It's... mayo? Slightly different I guess.

So, your thoughts....

My neighbor and friend D let me use her storage unit in the basement of our building back in 2020 when I thought I was going to sell my condo and needed it emptied out for when people would come see it (which hardly anyone did but that's not the point of this). I've left stuff in there since that time. She somehow has never needed the extra space.

Any. Way. she told me last month that her sister is going thru a divorce and selling their house and wants to let her sister use that space to store stuff but she has no idea when. She finally texted me yesterday, and again today, that her sister sold her house and is moving on August 1. She tells me I have to clean out her storage. Which, yes, of course. However, this week I will be back and forth at my mom's and the days I'm at my place I have to be in the office. I was planning to take Friday off to go to the beach so I told her I probably couldn't get to it till this weekend (didn't tell her about the beach or taking the day off). Now she tells me she's working around her nephew's schedule to help move stuff and he's only available on Saturday so please have it cleared out by Friday night. So I replied that I would start it tonight when I get home from my mother's. I know I probably should have started emptying it when she first told me, even though she said to not worry about till she knew what was happening with her sister. I kinda think she could have given me more notice or not have to focus on just one of her five nieces and nephews and that kid's very small window to help. Or maybe I'm just a terrible person. But I'm not going to get home tonight till close to 9:00pm. Tomorrow after work I'm heading back up to my mom's and will be here all day Wednesday. Gah!

I am 42 years old and I tried weed for the first time yesterday. Nothing really happened except a dry mouth and lights out sleep.

TIL that a grouping of frogs is called an army. Suddenly the premise of Battletoads makes much more sense.

Also, this thread is 12 years old, started on July 31, 2012.

So, I did a thing earlier today. There’s the actor I’m a huge fan of, have been following his career for a while. There’s a woman who runs a fan Facebook group, plus a Twitter and Instagram account that I found while trying to find out more about him. She and I have become friendly over the past couple of years and we managed to get in touch with him and he agreed to do a Q&A with us over Zoom. It was totally amazing and he was so awesome and I’m I think I may be a little more obsessed with him than I was before we started this - heh. Still a little giddy!

This is excellent, congrats!!! My wife gave me a phone call (not even video) with Douglas Hofstadtar for a birthday long, long ago. Best present I have ever received.
