TRP: Free of political butthurt since 1999.

Re: TRP: Free of political butthurt since 1999.

Most firms in my industry have done away with "sick time" vs "vacation time" as there is no real difference. It's a benefit that is part of my whole compensation package. If my immediate work load can tolerate me taking a day off and I feel it will help me, I take it from my Paid Time Off - PTO (or Compensated Time Off - CTO as my current employer calls it) account.
That's the way at my firm as well. Set number of paid days off to use as I like.

My company changed to that last year, and we actually gained more time off than we had before (when adjusted for years being employed). I honestly have to burn days just to burn 'em, so I don't lose them (limit of 40 hours carryover).

Re: TRP: Free of political butthurt since 1999.

I get one sick day per quarter, and they accumulate, but don't carry over each year. However, speaking from experience, my boss will "absolve"/forgive sick days for an illness that results in hospitalization, and my company has their share of those.

wish I had that problem. I get 4 weeks of vacation, but we can't carry it over. We can carry over sick time (it was the opposite before we got bought by another company). Although at this point, I could use 52 weeks of vacation. :D I've only used sick time this year for dental/doctor appointments. I used to try and schedule those outside of work hours, but my morale is so low right now, I try to schedule them DURING work hours.

I get an extra week of vacation at 15 years (which is in January. can't. wait.)

Having just general time off makes more sense, if you can carry it over.

p.s. those of you who think you're a hero for not using sick days - your co-workers are plotting your demise if you show up to working hacking and sniffling instead of staying home. :p

I don't come to work if I'm hacking and sniffling. I just don't get that way. I have a rockstar immune system.

This. IF I get sick (as in virus/whatever), it's usually something where I don't feel like blinking, because (insert graphic disposal of something inside my body through some orifice).

Re: TRP: Free of political butthurt since 1999.

We don't have a set number of sick days. We have a certain amount at 100% pay and a certain amount at something like 60% pay. The weeks of 100% go up depending on your service time. Anything over a few days means you go on short-term and you need a "doctor's note".

Leaving for my Bachelor Party in Duluth tomorrow. Cannot freaking wait.

Re: TRP: Free of political butthurt since 1999.

Looking in the mirror tonight, it looks like I may have recently chipped the almost 20 year-old dental bonding on one of my incisors that was a peg lateral. First world problems.

I was told by a dentist three years ago that the bonding would eventually need to be replaced with a pair of crowns. I guess she wasn't quite as much of a money-grubbing shyster as I thought.

I'm going to find this Bo Dietl jackwagon and beat him with a shovel for making these Arby's commercials.

I feel the same way about the elderly in the Safeco Insurance commercials.

I'm told it's true....
I'm lucky I'm nowhere near a Whole Foods.

There's a Whole Paycheck about 20 mins from where I live - given that I enjoy cooking, I've been a few times out of curiosity. Right off, I'll state that even though I loved the column, I've never experienced anything the author did - no judgmentalism, no health nut booths, etc. Granted, I do not shop the beauty or supplement aisles (didn't even know they existed, in fact). There are definitely things they do very well - I have the luxury of an above average Meijer's 10 mins from my house that has a solid (albeit small) cheese case, but I could spend $313 just at the WF cheese counter. Their seafood is the best, short of driving to an indy fish store in Royal Oak nearly an hour away. Their produce is the best of the chains, though the aforementioned Meijer's isn't too far behind (unless you're an organic nut). However, during the growing season, if there's a farmer's market within reasonable driving distance, you're usually going to find similar produce for a fraction of the price.

However, I enjoyed the column because I have no doubt that there are plenty of Whole Paycheck stores where her experience is the norm. Also, just based on her tiny pic, she's far from a "3". :p

The new Whole Foods in Maple Grove? Good God. None of them are as ******y as the Wedge Coop, though. Cripes.

yeah, it doesn't look like he has missed out on too many of those curly fries, either.

Just fried up some bacon for salads for lunch the next couple days. The whole house smells like bacon now. This might not have been the best idea right before bed.

Bacon would actually help me sleep.

Over the next two days, I need to do a lot of baking. That can't be good before bed, either.
