Re: TRP: Changing Conferences Since 1999

Presidents Day last Monday. I guess maybe I'm in a smaller minority that had it off than I realized.
I think you are in a small minority. I don't know a single person that had President's Day off, or that has ever had President's Day off.

My office takes off when the PTO is closed, i.e. federal holidays. On the other hand, we're open Christmas Eve, the day after Thanksgiving, etc., and our sick days are bundled with our vacation days, which don't increase with seniority. So while it's nice to get the minor holidays off (we also are off for MLK Day, Columbus Day and Veterans Day), on balance it's not THAT good of an arrangement.

I had it off! First time since I was in school, I think. My company is based in NYC, I suspect it's more observed in the East than in the Midwest.

Edit: Well the East and all guvamint employees. And lower level bank employees.

Yeah, its actually fairly comparable to what my company has off, its just different days.

Goldy, I guess I know one person then! 2 if I count jmh!

Wow, I thought we were the only people that had to work on President's Day. Usually when the stock market is closed, business are closed. But then again, the stock market is closed on Good Friday and nothing is closed on Good Friday.

Re: TRP: Changing Conferences Since 1999

I think we're losing track of the original point, which is: this week sucks and is taking forever.

We only get New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving(2 days), and Christmas (2 days).

And jmh, this day* is flying by, but I've been very busy at work, which helps.

edit:*week, not day

We've gotten about 8 inches of snow in the last 24 hours and most of the people in the office are "working from home" today. The office is quiet so I'm blasting music.

Snow? What's that? It's chilly and rainy here again.

Man, I thought my memory was bad. You had some of it in like November. You can't remember back 4 months?
You were right, old man, your memory is bad; it was in October. :p

This is my company's observed holiday list.

At least I remembered that it happened late last year. You couldn't even remember what it was - yet it happened to you! :p

Re: TRP: Changing Conferences Since 1999

You seriously get Columbus Day off? Flag Day and Arbor Day are jealous.

We get New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
Since a small portion of my job is to provide production support of technical systems to the people who move the big money into and out of the trust portion of the bank, my department has to match theirs, which is dictated by the Federal Reserve.

Do you know anyone who works in a public school? Solid chance they had it off. (Not definite though)
