TRP: Changing Conferences Since 1999

Re: TRP: Changing Conferences Since 1999

At what point in the transition from the Hold Steady and Yeah Yeah Yeahs to Bon Iver (album of the year my ***) and Destroyer did "indie rock" become Brian-Eno-meets-Kenny-G ambient smooth jazzy garbage? These guys make the Decemberists look like AC/DC. I feel like I need to go do penance at the Church of Joey Ramone to purify my ears.

I really dislike Bon Iver. They get a ton of play on the station I listen to. UGH. Just hearing the lead singer's voice makes me want to punch him in the face.

I change it but it changes back!

You do realize that there are plenty of harder edged indie bands, stop reading Pitchfork! (have no idea of Pitchfork's taste anymore, but I do know they haven't gotten better since I stopped reading them about 6 years ago) Also, front man of Hold Steady: Minnesotan, front man of Bon Iver: Wisconsinite. Coincidence?

You're a hipster who's too cool for Pitchfork? JFC, that's like the Bible to hipsters.

You must be like some kind of super-hipster. Hipster 2.0.

Re: TRP: Changing Conferences Since 1999

I would actually doubt that bb_dl has. ;)
If they don't play it on K102...then I probably don't know it. There is some rock, and 80's stuff that I know, though.

edit: And Brantley, he's mostly rock with some country songs, and listen to him right now!

Honestly, Pitchfork's been dead to the 'hipster' community for quite some time. I just went to their homepage and they have stuff on Amy Winehouse, ?uestlove, Big Boi, Trent Reznor/Karen O, and Nicki Minaj...not exactly indie staples. And I know they have a hard-on for Kanye and Jay-Z and a ton of other big names that don't need the recognition. I still mostly read http://www.adequacy.net/ and http://www.tinymixtapes.com/ for music. But at the end of the day I usually just check out local bands who will never be bigger than the dive venues in town, and I'm fine with that.

Yep, I know there are (I'm enjoying Neon Trees at the moment), I'm just sorta mystified by the adulation for this stuff. I'm not really a huge fan of Pitchfork, but I will confess that I love reading lists, and theirs is long and occasionally entertaining, if aggravating.

Also, Les Paul was from Wisconsin, which makes up for a lot of Bon Iver.

Beer at White Castle? Hmmm... I like that idea. After a few beers it might make those burgers taste better because I can't stomach one in my right mind.

Re: TRP: Changing Conferences Since 1999

indie rock and hipster music is a blight upon this good Earf. We much quash it before it ruins more upper middle class white suburban kids.
