As for the state fair, I was there twice last year, and both times was because for concerts - 93X night and then again for the Black Crowes (the date with the lesbian). Before that, I hadn't been there since 2000 and the time before that was 1995.
I'd like to get out to the Renaissance Festival sometime, but I'm not really all that excited either. My parents used to take me when I was a kid. The last time I was there had to be some 20 years ago. I remember there being some excellent chili served in a bread bowl. Other than that, the jousts were pretty cool, but I think I was too young to really get the Puke & Snot routine. So I remember three things from that place in the five or six times my parents took me there as a kid.

I've always wanted to go to one, but I just can't swallow the level of nerdiness necessary to do so. Probably stems from a kid I knew in high school who went to them and was basically Napoleon Dynamite incarnate.

If the ones out by you have the jousts, they're pretty cool to see. These guys went all out and beat the p**s out of each other back in the 80s. Beyond that, the bread bowl chili is all I can remember very fondly.

Well, yes, that's understood RenFaire people are crazy mofos, and apparently many of the ladies are none-too-clean in the eNeMaU sense. 
A definite plus. Remember the twin ladies from North Carolina in our organization? One's been a vice president for a while? They've been known to dress up renaissance-style, and, well, you can imagine the rest.

Its official, DL fails at being a Minnesotan. I've never met a Minnesotan before that dislikes the stat fair.
I've found many ways to make free entertainment at the fair over the years, being there all day for 8 days allows you to know every corner of that place!

There was talk about arranging a USCHO state fair get-together of some kind, but I haven't heard anything of it lately. Dirty even mentioned that he wanted to come down for it!There should be a USCHO day.
There hasn't been real farm equipment at the fair since the 80's, its all lawn mowers and mini-tractors that make city folk feel homesy.

I'll be going to the fair on Friday the 28th as well, with MEg, Biddco and my lady friend.Know your audience.

I will be there Friday with my wife, son and a French teaching intern we are hosting. Just found out the Frenchie has a family history of heart issues and has to watch his fat intake. Gonna suck for him to miss all those goodies on a stick.
