We looked at the Edinburgh tattoo, but decided on a week in Norway and Sweden. Wanted to tour the Volvo factory, but the English tour is on Thursday, which happens to be the national holiday the week we're there. :(

If you’ve never gotten food poisoning just before a day with 11 hours of plane travel, it’s not really an experience I can recommend (luckily it was on the way home, not on the way there).

Besides that, Norway was great. We were really lucky with the Northern Lights and got good displays both nights (even saw pink). Some beautiful scenery on Flåm Railway and Hurtigruten, even with fog and snow.

My favorite city may have been Trondheim - so cute.

We watched Norwegian playoff hockey on TV during some down time, and Mario Lucia and Greg Mauldin were playing (and Mauldin had the gold helmet as the leading scorer).

One thing we thought was odd - no one asked for ID for our domestic flights. Not once.

The northern lights are amazing, aren’t they? Saw them in Finland last month. One of the most incredible things I’ve ever seen, and now really want to see them again.

I passed through Amsterdam and two Finnish Airports last month. Security was basic but I certainly had to prove my ticker matched my passport.

When I was jumping between EU countries, I really don't remember passports coming out. Only when coming back from Europe to the US.

My parents had a cabin up near Brainerd and I saw the Northern Lights a few times when up there. I wasn't really old enough to truly appreciate what I was seeing back then.

We were trying to come up with a way to describe them, but really couldn’t. Both nights, it was just a few hazy lines at first. I thought.. really? This is it? Then later - they started to dance. Incredible.

My camera was too old to have the correct exposure settings, but my cousin got some good ones. The guides got great pictures - one place, you had to buy them, the other shared for free.

I have several friends who were disappointed by their experiences (in Norway and Iceland), so to have 2 nights of pretty good activity was very lucky.

I will say that being above the arctic circle helps. They are so much more up there. I was equivalent of northern Alaska for context.
