Travel Part 3: Destination Unknown

Hartsfield is the busiest airport in the country. They have a pretty good system, despite that, IMO.

It’s bad because it’s SO busy. I find places like lax and jfk to be faster than Minneapolis due to their familiarity with large crowds. I do think Atlanta is alright for being the busiest

Re: Travel Part 3: Destination Unknown

I tried to rebook through DTW and in a delta comfort seat but those dinguses couldn’t rebook me.

I mainly just don’t want a 10.5-hour flight in the a-shole of the plane.

Hey who knows? Maybe you'll be seated between two smokin' hot ladies with advanced degrees. :p

Maybe try the other way around? Any flights via Tokyo? :p

Agreed on ATL. Customs there aren't as bad as they should be for as busy as it is, but it is really **** busy, so it does take a while to get through.

My worst experience with US based customs was in Detroit. Sat in a line there for 90 minutes the 1 time I re-entered there. Internationally, Buenos Aires was a complete nightmare.

Re: Travel Part 3: Destination Unknown

Had to deal with a little tyrant TSA ***** at DIA this morning. The ******* was telling everyone in "his line:" "see how my line moves faster than those other lines, it is because people are listening to me! Do you have any liquids or electronics?!?!" He started bugging me when I was still 4 people from getting to the table and bins. I ignored the *****. That ****ed him off. He said something like "did you hear me, SIR!" So I responded very firmly "this isn't my first time flying" and went back to ignoring him. It was 4:30am, I had 3 hours of sleep. I was not in the mood to put up with some ****ant's power trip.

Careful, giving too much lip to TSA might land you on the new "double secret probation" list.

That is the first time I've heard anything bad about DIA. Half the time, they didn't even bother with security for me (this was after 9/11). Basically looked at me, all prepared, shoe-less, all metal in hand ready to drop, and said "fuggit, he's good."

Yeah, but we pay big bucks to our travel agent. We should get better service.

The Scotland screwup was 100% personal travel so I didn’t have expectations there about corporate service and rebooking.

I do when I’m traveling for work. Very disappointed with the service right now. It doesn’t help that I’ve been jerked around all trip with delays and cancellations.

No way you should have let them tell you they couldn’t do anything. As you typed, they are paid by your company.

I don't think I've had a good experience yet at DIA. It is usually a nightmare from my experiences. Long lines, inefficient, annoying. I would try to avoid it.

Re: Travel Part 3: Destination Unknown

The best airport I’ve been through has been AMS. Followed by MSP terminal 1 at about a 7.5, relative. Maybe higher.

I’d put SBN, WRO, MLI at the top beyond that (among those I remember). WRO and MLI are likely because they’re so small.

ABZ was decent. I’d put FRA, JFK, and CDG at the bottom.

Frankfurt was weird. No centralized security stations and they don’t have enough bins when you get to one.

CDG is just a complete mess. I am also finding I despise airports that wait until 30 minutes before your departure to assign your gate. It’s not as efficient as I expected. It’s just asking for people to miss their flight. Especially international travelers who might have issues with WiFi or cell service. When the over breaks down it’s a mess. I got a “You flight is closing its doors in 10 minutes. Go to the gate now” before there was even a gate assigned at CDG. Ran there only to wait another 30 minutes in line.

Amsterdam would be perfect if it weren’t so busy.

Re: Travel Part 3: Destination Unknown

Just realized from the other comments that DIA is Denver, and not a mistype of IAD for Dulles. It seems they could have picked slightly more different codes for two very important airports.

Re: Travel Part 3: Destination Unknown

Now you see why I prefer ams to cdg

DIA is the layman acronym. The actual IATA code for Denver is DEN.

Re: Travel Part 3: Destination Unknown

KWI is the worst airport on earth.

Logan has direct access to the plane form BA lounges, so that gets two thumbs up

PIT has one central security bottleneck. Ugh. Luckily nobody flies there anymore :)

DXB is huge. So changing can by an issue, but it works and Emirates first class lounge is pretty cool

LHR does that late call for gates, plus term 5 has those satellite bldgs which requires a train ride. And the Concorde lounge cooks all their burgers well done. Fvcking mad cow dammit  doesn’t even make up for the fact if you ask for a bottle of booze, they bring you a bottle of booze :)

So basically other than MSP & AMS you don't like airports with more than 5 gates? :D

AMS is a great airport, it might be my favorite that I've been to as well.
