Transfer Portal

... But increasingly it is going to be hard for all of the others to compete with the Big Ten schools and the football ACC schools, the rich are likely to get richer. From west to east, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Penn State, Syracuse, Boston College. It will be a very rare Frozen Four without at least one of those and usually there will be more than one.
Very interesting thought on the ACC schools.

I've always assumed that BC would find a way to get back to our top tier. And probably sooner rather than later. But I hadn't thought of Syracuse & ACC resources in the same way. I'll keep an eye on them!

(I forget why I went looking for 'other' pages detailing the portal, but I found one. Today is the first time that they have had something the other did not, but...)

Two more Bemidji D players in the Portal today. Ella Anick and Taylor Larson.

Awesome on finding this spreadsheet - it's much easier to view with players grouped by their school. It's evident that some schools are having quite the turmoil.

You never know what drama is behind the scenes that motivates players to jump if it's anything more than just wanting more playing time. I just hope they don't lose focus on completing their education.

You can search the 'first' web site by school name and see those in the portal 'grouped'. And you can click through to a spreadsheet there and then sort by school, etc.

I agree - I think anyone leaving Harvard is not thinking logically - it's okay to give up the hockey. In all likelihood the only reason you were admitted was because of hockey. That's just my opinion others may think hockey is the end all.

I find it interesting that there's an entire thread on Harvard women's hockey coach playing "mind hunger games" with her players - and yet Muzzerall is being lauded on here for basically decommitting players at whim, walking back promises/scholarships the last minute to players who had their hearts set on tOSU, replacing players that SHE RECRUITED after only 1-2 years so she can pick up transfers instead of actually, oh, I don't know, coaching and developing kids. What kind of experience are her student-athletes having? No one seem to cares, the sentiment is more 'oh, players should know what they're getting into because she's The Muzzinator". Because she's winning with the hodge podge she's been able to put together the last few years because of COVID, that way she's running her program is ok? Why don't you ask some of the earlier players about the time she walked into the locker room, made a popping sound with her finger, and said "That's you guys getting your heads out of your asses". Talk about class.

This is complete bullshit and couldn't be more wrong. Coach Nadine did not "decommit" any players. The players that are in the transfer portal are there because they chose to leave, not because our coach "decommitted" them.

But if they all chose to stay, how would she 1) afford their scholarships and afford the transfers and 2) keep her commitment to them when it appears she's trying replace them?

Not all players get scholarships and only a few get full rides. Some of the top players get full rides and the rest of the scholarship are broken apart and various amounts are distributed among the rest of the team as the coach sees fit.

As an example Sophie Jaques was on a 2 year engineering scholarship this year, because of what is available at OSU and her academic ability. Didn’t need an athletic scholarship.

Mark Johnson’s legacy has skyrocketed on the strength of his last 3 championships. Transfers factored heavily in all of those. People act like there werent people on his rosters losing playing time because of it. I don’t think it’s right to criticize Muzerall like she is the only one who loves the portal. In fact she herself lost a high profile player in Sauve to Clarkson (yes she was a graduate). The knife cuts both ways. Any of the five programs that has won a natty has been on the receiving end of high profile transfers simply because those are the programs people want to be at.

Ohio State had, I think, six transfers on this year's roster. Has Wisconsin ever had more than two?

(And I'm pretty confident that Johnson's legacy was already firmly established prior to 2019.)

The five St Cloud players combined for zero goals, four assists, and the one goalie got zero minutes..

This is not directed at Eeyore specifically,
but no calls for Idalski to develop his 7 players in the portal? Just multiple coach of the year awards and a t shirt that says it’s not personal it’s business. Hmmm,

And the Yuckeyes had more the year they won the title...Wasn't it like 11?

I don't recall the Sinners having more than two and that is pretty similar to the Tunnelers. Speaking of the Tunnelers, Goalie Olivia King is in the Portal.

Prior to the last three championships his women’s coaching legacy was on par with Frost and Miller.

Transfers helped take it to the next level.

A coach doesn't decommit players that are already on their roster. *facepalm*

Decommitment is what happens when a Coach doesn't honor the verbal commitment to an incoming freshman because the coach decides to raid the transfer portal for seasoned players, leaving the incoming freshman scrambling to find a new program. And I've been told that's 100% happened at OSU over the past few years.

I guess he could be called Ifailyouski...Needs some work but it's a start.

Prior to the last three championships, Mark Johnson became the winningest coach in NCAA women's hockey, and became the only hockey player to have his number retired at Wisconsin.

Their web site shows it as eight (albeit with three of them being from Robert Morris, which IMO means they carry an asterisk if the topic is 'poaching' or forcing players out, etc.)
