Transfer Portal - 2024

brilliant

There are approximately 70 forwards currently in the portal. Is the post meant to say that none of the 70 is 'sufficient'? Is the point of the post to try to induce or convince or solicit other student-athletes to put at risk their current school and team in hopes of being of 'sufficient' skills that they will be the one OSU sees as 'acceptable' for their team? Because once a S-A enters the portal, backing out and staying at their current school become 'problematic', to say the least.

For what purpose or reason did OSU WH make this post? What do you find to be "brilliant" about it?

Seems fishy and I would know, I practically fish for a living. I can smell it in the air.

If I was relying on the Portal to enhance my team for next year, I'd be shaking the tree as hard as possible too. There are no legit gamechangers on that list right now. Solid contributors, absolutely. But no marquee names.

Hmmm, this kinda goes against the narrative that Muzzy has a titanic roster all ready assembled and is just waiting to unleash a roster unmatched in its awesomeness to the world of women's college hockey. I think it confirms some people's suspicions.

How many?

From what I can see total of 10 comments, 4 negative.

Also not sure this is for women currently on the portal, this may be for anyone thinking of getting on the portal. Letting the players know that they are looking for two spots. I think it is a smart move, an I am sure they checked with compliance before doing this to make sure it doesn't violate NCAA rules.

A free help wanted sign is thinking out of the box. The incoming recruits have to be nervous with this type of stuff going on. I'm not saying it is good or bad, but stressful for some.

It's definitely for people not yet in the portal, because once they are in the portal you can contact them directly. (Players in the portal do have an option to select "do not contact" if they don't want programs reaching out, usually because they know their destination.) And yeah, I don't think it breaks any rules to just yell vaguely in the direction of the internet "HEY WE'D PROBABLY ADD A COUPLE OF FORWARDS" (certainly in other sports coaches are speaking openly in interviews about what they are looking for in the portal) but it does really run against the idea that they have a complete idea of who they are getting in the portal if they are putting personal ads up on Insta.

I come up with such a great insightful post, and Badger Pete ruins it with facts. Very good point, dumb me.

Well, it depends on what happens next.

One of the comments is a person (Lindenwood Forward Rachel Goff) calling out to a player named Sarah Dravis, a forward from Lindenwood who has her grad COVID year remaining and is currently NOT in the portal (not to be confused with Lindenwood defender Sarah Davies, who is in the portal). If Sarah Dravis were to contact Ohio State before entering the portal, and Ohio State did anything more than simply say "we cannot talk to you", that would be an NCAA violation.

On the other hand, if Sarah Dravis enters the portal and then contacts Ohio State, it would not be a violation. But she'd quite likely be told "thanks, but no thanks". And then she'd be in the portal, having told Lindenwood she is interested in going elsewhere, and may well not be welcomed back onto their team. Possibly having given up any scholarship she had had at Lindenwood, etc.

It is a very weird thing for Ohio State to have done.

Well written and explained post. Thank you!

Such an uneducated post. From someone who has zero experience and uses Google as his information source. Coach Muzerall is light years ahead of every other program in womens hockey. Keep spectulating, as it's highly entertaining to see how off the mark you are.

What did I write that you think is incorrect?

(And BTW: one does use Google as "the source", one uses Google to find the proper sources.)
