Transfer Portal - 2024

I keep clicking on this thread and IMHO this thread has turned into something I would expect in the Men's Forum. Wish you all would take the name calling and conspiracy theories off line and actually talk about the women in the portal and what the pick ups by the teams and losses by the teams mean. Oh I guess that that would just turn into more bashing between the WCHA fans (Wisco vs OSU) and BC lament their losses and probably no other posts on this thread. LOL.

So I will stay away from any name calling and give you the following about Clarkson
Clarkson has 3 portal losses of significance
Swiderski - from what was posted on the Clarkson Forum did not see eye to eye with the coaching staff the way she was being used. Fair enough, time to feed the Clarkson to OSU defensive pipeline (wink).
Frenette and Bogden - was surprised both moved on. Not sure why. I think both could have been major contributors to the offense in their final years (thinking double digit goals and 20-30 points).
Hull and Ham did not play as freshmen and so it was time to move on.

Clarkson additions
Fess and Goffredo from BC have been discussed before in this thread. Should be good pickups
Chantler from Quinny should be another good pickup to help with offense

The 3 portal losses and forward losses from graduation (Petrie, McQuigge, Lappan and Guay) as well as the graduation of All ECAC Goalie Pasiechnyk are going to make it tough to repeat the 2023-2024 win total unless there are some freshmen forwards that can put the puck in the net and Julia Minotti can repeat her performance in the nets against the top ECAC teams that she had against the lower eschelon teams.
Once again Haley Winn and Nicole Gosling on D may end up being the top 2 scorers on the 24-25 edition.

That is all folks.

Um yeah, this is true. A fan who tells us they have inside connections to the program bragging about done deals before the players are even in the portal sure looks like a smoking violation gun to me. Hockeybuckeye, how are we to take this? "Shrugs Shoulders" / "Confused". Are you just BSing us like Sierra did with the Mustang story?

Sierra wasn't BSing you about the Mustang and I'll admit I have in the past jerked robertearle's chain on occasion which you caught when he was too annoying but the things we say that are true you guys just don't believe it.
For the dedicated Badger fans on forum I don't understand how you guys aren't connected enough to your program to know things that aren't general knowledge. I even have connections to know behind the scenes things at University of Michigan. That's how I was able to post about their getting a women's team a year before it was publicly announced they were looking into it.
I'm considering now of utilizing my connection at Wisconsin for inside info. How would you like that?

... and actually talk about the women in the portal and what the pick ups by the teams and losses by the teams mean.

The portal window has closed and I was intrigued to see St. Thomas at the top of the list for number of players entering the portal with 9 followed by BU with 8 and Quinnipiac with 7. Anyone have any insight into why so many players entering the portal from those schools? None of them are in the "usual suspect" category of schools with a history of large numbers of players entering the portal.

I truly don't understand what "connected... to your program" is even supposed to mean. Under what conditions do you imagine this "connection" would take place? I'm gonna go hang out with MJ at LaBahn and he's going to tell me who he's looking at offering next recruiting period? That's utterly absurd.

As best I can recall, I have been in a room with Mark Johnson small enough and uncrowded enough to walk over and start a conversation twice in my life: once was a 'celebration' of the 2011 championship, and there were 'only' a couple hundred people in the Nicholas-Johnson Pavilion (while they were signing autographs, I asked Hilary Knight about a reported broken thumb, she said Dr appointment the next day to see if surgery would be needed); the other was a campus house party in 1978 or so, when a friend of mine and I had heard about a party at such-and-such an address, so we went, walked in, saw it wasn't an 'everybody come' kind of party, apologized, and left (and I'm not completely sure MJ was even there, other UW hockey players were). I have never seen the other UW WH coaches outside of LaBahn/Kohl Center in my life. When would I? Under what circumstances would I?

Seriously, I have no idea what you are talking about, what sort of events or conditions you imagine. Enlighten me. Describe to me a 'for instance' of the circumstances when you and Muzzeral had a substantive conversation.

I assumed some Wisconsin posters would be tight maybe not with MJ, but others connected to the program that would tell you things they hear. Even the equipment guy hears things. I could be at a mixer hosted by OSU's Trustees and they'd tell me for example what's on the table for the promised arena. Wisconsin's football coach spent many many years in Columbus and knows me well and Luke would tell me anything he hears Badger hockey.
There's all kinds of sources for info so I thought you guys would have utilized some of them.

I've been back in Madison for fifteen years now. I can think of two people I have met/know even 'casually' who work(ed) in the Athletic Department. They wouldn't tell me "things they hear", and I wouldn't want them to. On two occasions, I've bumped into players on teams I follow, and when asking them about teammates and injuries, etc. I purposely phrased the question so as to NOT put them in an awkward position: "If I ask you about Julia's ankle, you're going to tell me absolutely nothing?" (They laughed, and said resoundingly "Absolutely Nothing!") I don't get invited to "mixers" and wouldn't go if I were. What you are talking about is utterly foreign to me.

OK, I promised myself I wasn't going to do this anymore because this has turned into an utter cesspool that has nothing to do with talking about women's hockey, but here's what I can say: I've been around the program since literal day one when I walked across the street from my dorm to the Kohl Center a month into my freshman year of college to stand in the front row of what passed for a student section and watch us get boatraced by Duluth in the inaugural game. (Fun fact: I've seen Nadine Muzerall score a hat trick in person my sophomore year Thanksgiving weekend in Middleton.) I'm a lifer. I've missed less home Badger games than a lot of people have made.

This staff doesn't gossip, they don't tell us things "they hear", they do their jobs quietly and professionally from the top down and do a spectacular job of it. (The "equipment guy" for most of that time was Sis Paulsen who might be literally the best in the business, which is why she's equipment manager for the US Women's National Team.) The idea that we'd be sitting around an athletic department event and people would be sliding info around sounds ludicrous to me. It may be the way it works at OSU, it ain't how it works here. (And if Fickell were to start doing that, he'd be persona non grata around the other coaches real fast.)

I don't go hunting for inside info, and don't particularly care if you have it or not. Clearly the relationship between OSU fans and their program and UW fans and our program differs pretty wildly. I'm fine with the way we have it. They put an amazing team in front of me each year full of outstanding student-athletes, and I damage my vocal chords further doing the infinitesimal amount I can to help. I require nothing further from this transaction; I've been basically stealing from the athletic department for years based on how low ticket prices are compared to the product they provide.

Anyone want to talk about the actual portal? Who are the best remaining players and where might they end up?

I’ve been going to OSU games since the first game in 1999. Coach Muzerall, her staff and players do their jobs quietly, professionally and do a spectacular job just like Wisconsin staff does. We had a player diagnosed with cancer, Madison Bizal, during covid. Word did not leak out until this year when a story was published. Information doesn’t leak out at OSU.

This thread and a few other threads are toxic because of a few individuals. Trolls and wink winks are ruining these threads. Stop it.

You toxic folks are hurting your programs by trying to “look big” because you “know something” or trying to prove someone wrong.

i have blocked many trolls so they won’t get my message but I doubt they will listen to it anyway. OSU wink winks are next to be blocked. You are hurting the program. STOP IT.

Anyone want to talk positively and constructively about Women’s Ice Hockey?

(I have no particular opinion of her play - maybe she's a defensive minded defender - but she put up three points last year, with a plus/minus of +6. But...)

Her name is Zumwinkle.

It's not as if there were Buckeye fans watching Gopher games the last few years saying "gee, it sure would be nice to have Emily Zumwinkle on our team!" She has been borderline at her good moments.

Disregard the portal for a moment, just coaching the players Muzerall has been putting Frost to shame. If Zumwinkle blossoms for the Buckeyes, that should finally send a message clear enough to the Gophers to see if they can't get a coach that can compete.

When watching Emily she just didn't seem to be the player Grace is but I would agree, under our coach and once adapted to her system would there be more potential to unlock?
