Top Performing Freshman in 2011-12 Season

Re: Top Performing Freshman in 2011-12 Season

Austin Czarnik (17GP, 6g, 9a, 15p) leads the Miami Redhawks in scoring. He had a great USHL career in Green Bay and scored two huge goals for TEAM USA in the gold medal final against Canada in the World Junior A Challenge last November. He's small, but gritty and skilled.

Cole Gunner (15GP, 4g, 14a, 18p) is second in scoring for Air Force. Came from a small and low profile high school in Minnesota (Richfield), played two seasons in the USHL.

Top 5 freshman in PPG so far are:

1. Cole Gunner (Air Force) 15GP 4-14-18

2. Brian Ferlin (Cornell) 11GP 5-7-12

3. Ludwig Karlsson (Northeastern) 13 GP 6-8-14

4. Kyle Rau (Minnesota) 18GP 11-8-19

5. Patrick McNally (Harvard) 9GP 2-7-9

No love for Scott Wilson at Lowell? 12GP 5-7-12

Only River Hawk drafted by an NHL team (Penguins).

Richfield may be more low profile in hockey recently, but it isn't small IMO. It's practically inner-city (Minneapolis) and with an enrollment over 1,500, they play their hockey in Class AA (Minnesota's large school class).

Hockey East

Ludwig Karlsson 9 G 13 A 22 P in 22 games
Scott Wilson 11 G 10 A 21 P in 22 games

To update:

It's Scott Wilson's world, everyone else is just paying rent:

Wilson - 28GP 15-16-31 (1.11 ppg)

Your boy is being outpointed by a Freshman D-Man

Joey LaLeggia, Fr, D, Denver 32gp 10 23 33 1.03

I see your point with 4 more games in hand but Wilson a runaway is not true.

Yes, the four games in hand are fairly significant. Two points up with four in hand - I stand by my statement.

I really hate calling many of these old guys freshmen. I was a sophmore or junior by the time I was their age.

It all balances out. You were still a senior at 30, Happy.

No, but you must have really gotten a bad batch of Menard's paint thinner. either that, or the deer are starting to ripen in the ditch, causing your sex life to go all to hell.

David Johnstone of Tech has Steve Yzerman watching him says a lot for him will be a impact player before he is done.

Re: Top Performing Freshman in 2011-12 Season

Did you miss the part where Laleggia is a blueliner?
That's a fair statement. I think we (as Lowell fans) are looking at this situation in the same way we look at the HE ROTY. Gaudreau (BC) is having himself a great freshmen year as well, but the talent around him is much better, and that helps. There's no doubt in my mind that Lalegglia is doing the same thing in Denver. That helps both those guys with their points totals. And I'm not, in the least, trying to take away from Wilson's linemates, but the talent level around him (if judged by NHL Draft picks) on the UML roster is nowhere close.
