Top 100 Stadium Experiences of 2013 (US and Canada)

Re: Top 100 Stadium Experiences of 2013 (US and Canada)

I'm saying the PB crew took him Grandma's for pitchers of Kami's before the game and he was so sloshed he had no idea what was going on around him. ;)

And this is a bad idea because  ;)

If you read Stadium Journey, it's actually a good resource... I would say that there is some bias to "minor" sports venues in their writing, but that's not exactly a bad thing... Usually their views are spot on with my tastes...

#1 is, of course, Amsoil Arena in Duluth, MN

(#3 is Compton Family Ice Arena and #15 is Mariucci Arena)
Western bias. :p

Amsoil Arena does sound great though. I'd love to see it sometime if it weren't out in the middle of nowhere.

As a CC fan, having the World Arena as the #5 college hockey venue is either a really sad statement about college hockey, or this list sucks.

No name site makes a list. Not really news, and not worth being happy or upset about.

A lot of eastern arenas are really small and very basic, from the photos I've seen. And the nicer arenas (in terms of the building itself) aren't filled with excited fanbases (OSU) or are too new to make the list, I'd guess (PSU). That said, I would have expected to see more of BC and BU on that college hockey list. Their regional guy out in New England is probably a UMass fan.

i don't know how comfortable i'd enjoy being in amsoiled arena :p

Re: Top 100 Stadium Experiences of 2013 (US and Canada)

would be nice knowing what criteria they used. Bell Centre behind the World Arena? C'mon!

Re: Top 100 Stadium Experiences of 2013 (US and Canada)

That list should start and end with Cameron Indoor Stadium. The fact that it didn't make the top 100 (unless I missed it) pretty much shows that the whole list is dumb.

I agree that it really is a good resource and their reviewers generally do a good job and giving relatively unbiased views of many aspects of the venues and their surroundings. Obviously this is like any other list that is based on human opinion, it's mainly just something to talk about, and I just found it amusing that the local arena (which I do really like) was named #1 above many other more well-known venues.

CC's arena sucks. Amsoil is nothing special. It's new. Yay. It's not a BAD arena by any means, but it doesn't stand out IMO.

While CC's arena may not be as nice as some others, it has (by far) the best parking situation of any hockey arena I have ever been to (which totals around 30-35 different arenas).

I don't think they sent anyone to New England. Fenway makes that list off of reputation alone. Only NE site in their 100.

Agree with this. I've been to Amsoil, and it might make the top 5 of college hockey arena "experiences" I've been to. I actually liked the experience at the old DECC better than the new AMSOIL, and AMSOIL is a much nicer arena, obviously. The best experience (taking away the fact that my team usually got destroyed, and many fanbases are filled with *******s) I've had is at Kohl Center, with Mariucci and the Ralph being closely behind the Kohl. The DECC is probably next, with AMSOIL right after the DECC. The Colorado arenas are completely devoid of any kind of atmosphere, St. Cloud plays in a concrete bunker, and Mankato is pretty cookie-cutter. (I'm not bringing MacInnes into the discussion, because I don't want to be biased)

The old DECC was great. I haven't been to AMSOIL yet, but I've heard very good things about it.

As far as top 5 experiences for current arenas I've been to (not counting the Ralph), I'd go something like:
1. Kohl Center
2. Lynah
3. Alfond
4. Matthews
5. Yost (although, haven't been there since they coated the place in aluminum foil)

Just outside of that is Ewigleben (Ferris), Mariucci, and the Cadet Ice Arena (AF).

I agree that Magness and World Arena are lacking when it comes to experience, although Magness is pretty good for DU-UND matchups. I've never been to a Gold Pan contest (need to do this at some point), so I would imagine that those are pretty good as well.

As for MacInnes, I haven't been there in about 10 years, and it was a morgue when I went (Tech was playing Anchorage).
