Toot Cahoon Steps Down as UMass Head Coach

Re: Toot Cahoon Steps Down as UMass Head Coach

What, like a video of him saying those words? No. It is, however, a fact that Cahoon has let it be known how little support the Amherst administration has provided the hockey program. If you choose to believe that the 20 or so people linked to the UMass coaching job have all decided they want no part of this organization for another reason, that's your business. You'd be wrong, but that's your business.

if I had a friend or knew a good person who was going into a job that wasn't going to help them or be good for them then I'd tell them. I would have nothing wrong with Toot saying, if it happens to be the case, the state of UMass hockey as he sees it. If he's a good guy he should be able to divorce what he's seen and what he's been told and how he reacted from the bigger picture. I'm sure somebody like him won't be down on the fans, won't be down on the workers, etc.

I don't know that's what's going on... who knows.

OK, so what is holding up the Carlson announcement? Seems like it should be a done deal by now.

He's got a guy on the other line asking about some white walls.

Re: Toot Cahoon Steps Down as UMass Head Coach

Which will happen first: UMass hires a head coach or the new box office king is John Carter 2?

So, in other words, you have no evidence and it's all speculation on your part. Glad to see we're on the same page.

Toot is free to speak his mind. However, I think he's a class act and wouldn't go and sabotage a program on his way out the door. I think he cares too much about the team which he honestly built from the ground up. I also think he has too much respect for his players and the fans to do this. But what do I know? I'm just a guy who went to UMass and enjoyed attending college hockey games. I've heard interviews he's given, read stuff about him and I met him once which have led me to believe he wouldn't "Salt the Earth" on his way out the door. I obviously not his best friend and don't know him personally, so maybe I'm wrong.

He has a good gig and is part owner. I'm not as surprised by this as I was by the other two.

You can believe what you want to believe, it means nothing to me.

He's not going out of his way to sabotage anything, he just has to be honest about the situation. The hockey coaching fraternity, at this level, isn't a huge group. These guys know each other, and Toot doesn't need to put up a billboard to get this point across. But good luck on the coaching search, I really hope Amherst gets its 29th choice to accept the job for another half decade of striving for mediocrity.

You might as well be talking to the wall on the other side of the room. Facts is facts. ;) :p

BREAKING: The new UMass head coach will be HAL 9000. Deep Blue will assist; recruiting will be handled by the WOPR.

Re: Toot Cahoon Steps Down as UMass Head Coach

Talk about scraping the bottom of the barrel for a coach...you just needed to grab Kevin Sneddon's assistant? And at the same time, as if UVM didn't suck enough, now they lose Girgensons and an assistant coach within a few days.

Re: Toot Cahoon Steps Down as UMass Head Coach

They announced him today at a press conference. I still haven't learned his name. I guess I should get on that.

Re: Toot Cahoon Steps Down as UMass Head Coach

^I've learned a couple of names of head coaches once or twice in my lifetime. Thanks for the positive encouragement though!

Re: Toot Cahoon Steps Down as UMass Head Coach

John Micheletto said he was 'humbled' to be named the new head coach of the Minutemen, but it strikes me as though he was more of a 'panic' selection than anything else. UMass couldn't let this drag out any longer, and an 'outside' search wouldn't have yielded anything quickly since it hadn't already.
