tLet's prematurely start a GLI thread thread

Re: tLet's prematurely start a GLI thread thread

My prediction:

MSU wins every game in this GLI, going a perfect 4-0 on the weekend.

Every other team ends up 0-2.

Don't worry about the logistics of it.

:o humanities :o

I actually had no idea what kind of english department tech has. I just had to hope that it wasn't actually awesome.

And it seems you guys can't even seem to win in the GLI when you actually look pretty good.

EDIT: wait, i just saw your edit of my post. MSU grad? Wut?

I must say MSU looked like a team who hasn't played in 3 wks. Tech pretty much beat us in all but the score sheet. Good thing we finally started skating with about 6 minutes left. The best defense ...

I know that i just watched us play fine in a series against michigan but after today, i gotta flinch a little bit. One out of the 4 teams today looked to have noticeably heavier legs than the other 3.

hint: It was the team we least want to have that.

Re: Go blue!!!!!

Well michigan snipers ruled the day today. They took advantage of their chances well. BC really controlled the game for about 20 minutes in the second but the third michigan goal was a backbreaker, and BC was not the same after that. I thought BC was the better team but michigan lead on the scoreboard.

Re: Go blue!!!!!

"What a game by the State goalie?"

No way; Palmisano had a relatively easy night, despite the shot totals. At least half those shots were lazy dump-ins from bad angles, or shots right into the bread basket. In my estimation, he had to make maybe 3-4 tough saves.

So, the CCHA and FSD get their desired Michigan/MSU championship. :p ;) Too bad the Wings and Pistons will trump TV coverage.

Re: Go blue!!!!!

State was outshot by a lot (40-20 or something like that), but I feel that in terms of quality chances it was much more even. Nonetheless I don't like getting outshot that badly.

BC played well for about 8 minutes. I thought the refs pretty much gave up halfway through the third. I know UM is a co-host, but I'd have to think Tech would be in charge of getting the officials. Are the CCHA guys there for convenience reasons? I'd think Tech would want a WCHA crew there if they could. Heck, maybe there was a WCHA crew for the first game and I just wasn't paying attention, I didn't even look at where the refs were from until the second game.

Anyway, great game by Palmisano, wish I could go tomorrow but looks like I'll be streaming online. Go Green!

P.S. Tech Fans: What were the lyrics to "In Heaven There Is No Beer" during the snow verse?

I'm pretty sure the GLI is reffed entirely by CCHA crews due to convenience. We're not going to pay to fly WCHA refs out for a non-con series.

In Heaven, there is no snow
That's why we want to go!
And when it's ten below...
All our friends will be freezing in the snow!

This, although I think it was even rather than BC being a better team. Michigan dominated the 1st, BC dominated the 2nd, and they were even in the 3rd. The difference in the game was Michigan being able to break on a 2 on 1 and score against the run of play in "BC's period."

Michigan is an up and down team and given the chance, they have real snipers and can skate, BC for some reason repeatedly had a lot of guys down low and a defenseman pushing up too, which is a risk.I'm sure they get rewarded for it often but tonight they paid the price.
I would expect them to beat Tech like a drum this evening.

That's it in a nutshell. BC appears to be high risk/high reward because they can back check so well with their speed. Doesn't work so well when the other team has the same type of speed and can finish their chances. Same thing happened last season in the NCAA regional game against CC. I also think that BC lived up to their propensity for taking their near average of 15 minutes in penalties per game. Welcome to CCHA officiating, BTW. At least it wasn't like getting screwed in a NCAA regional final game in overtime.

Michigan still showed that they struggle in their end, especially during the PK. The second period was a microcosm of their season... except they managed to overcome it and score the all important lead goal. The third period was a clinic in defense. Not quite the same type of game as last season's GLI final v. CC, but we'll take it.

Wow, 3 straight over BC. I see a trend. ;)

Re: tLet's prematurely start a GLI thread thread

I thought this year we'd see the first GLI championship game in 30 years that was missing BOTH Michigan and MSU. Also, does anyone know the last time the championship game was not shown live on FSD, or a similar channel? I may be wrong, but it seems like it's been a while.

Re: tLet's prematurely start a GLI thread thread

If the NBA was still locked out the game would be on tv tonight. Really the Pistons should just forfeit the rest of the season, it would benefit everyone.
