Time to drop a deuce: the second MN Gopher Offseason Thread

Re: Time to drop a deuce: the second MN Gopher Offseason Thread

My point was that while you could attend Wild games for a comparable cost, your relative seat location wouldn't be as good. If the other aspects of the X such as being able to drink / better atmosphere overall matter to you, then attending Wild games would probably look more appealing than Gopher games despite the seat downgrade.

Personally, I'd take sitting at the end the Wild shoot at twice in the lower level over a blue line to blue line seat at Mariucci. Technically the seat at the X is "worse", but I've long preferred end seats over center ice ones (at least when the end seat is on the attacking side for 2/3 of the game).

Interesting. Most scouts prefer to sit in a corner end to dissect games. IMO, that is the best seat in the house, fans can see the play develop which is important to me.

I'm a corner guy too.

Bak, I think we agree. My point is more there is not a bad seat in the X, no matter what the price point. :)

Of course, the atmosphere at the X is far better,

Wow.... I think that's odd, 'cause I'd wager almost all fans of college hockey would call the atmosphere one of the things that college hockey has an edge over the NHL

I have been to plenty of SCCC games...yelling swear words and adding "Sieve" to 80's hair metal is not exactly atmosphere...it is drunk idiots showing off their vocab :D

Of course now you dont even have that so Pot meet Mr. Kettle ;)

Only time I would say that is true regarding the Gophers' home games is if they are facing UND, UW, or SCCC. There isn't much atmosphere to speak of against the rest of the league.

Strange that GE, 4four4 and I all have the same preference for seats. :p

Perhaps with the addition of TCF the school won't to rely so much on Gophers hockey revenue and finally cease with the incessant price increases?

Yeah, a guy can hope.

Nah, they'll continue relying on it to increase the salaries of everyone in the athletic department. :p

I have ZERO problem admitting that the atmosphere can suck when we're hosting the Gophers, as we get fans there who never show up to other games, don't know anyone on the squad, and just show up drunk to curse at the Gophers, but the NHC has more than just that. Go watch us host DU, CC or MTU... we've got a great crowd for those types of games.

I agree. When SCSU hosts the Gophers the poser fans come out. I get frustrated with these hack fans very quickly. If the gophers take a 1-0 or 2-0lead early in the game I am actually relieve as I see these clowns leave and the true fans remain. Overall I think SCSU has a great atmosphere.

The Gopher's atmoshpere is pretty strong as well. They definitely have a leg up on us with their tradition (and national championships) . But that is to be expected as our program is much younger. Baby steps.

I know one thing for sure, when it comes to college hockey in Minnesota, any of our MN teams playing the dirty UNDies gets my full and unconditional support.

I have been to as many non Gopher games up there as I have been Gopher games...and I dont see much of a difference. It is still the same lame swearing and 80's hair metal sieve chants.

10 years ago I would agree with you, now, I hardly even find that place intimidating. Still better than the new Ralph though, that place was dead half the time last year when the Gophs came to town  (opening weekend so everyone should have been there)

It'd help if every game wasn't a blowout.
