Time to drop a deuce: the second MN Gopher Offseason Thread

Re: Time to drop a deuce: the second MN Gopher Offseason Thread

great, those talents can have the rest of the non-contributing zeros drag them down.

it would be in MN's best interest to stack a line, to at least generate something this year.

Lucia needs some of those zeros to turn it around. Even if it's just a little bit.

Re: Time to drop a deuce: the second MN Gopher Offseason Thread

Not sure if it will happen, but a Cepis/Haula/Barriball line could be good scoring line and all three play with some grit.
Over at Hockey's Future they are projecting Bjugstad as the 1st line center for Team USA.

It's too bad that Handy gave up spinnin' the hits at WCHA Radio ...

I'd like to dedicate this one to Alex Kangas' upcoming season. That job isn't going to be a whole lotta fun.

Exactly right. And he's gotta give them a chance to do so right from the beginning.
I kinda anticipate Barriball and Cepis split up on those top 2 lines, and Budish and Hoefel doing the same thing. Centers? No idea. Hard to imagine they would have a freshman centering both the 1st and 2nd lines, but ya never know.

Call me crazy, but I am pretty optimistic about the upcoming season. I don't think the Gopher's are going to be world beaters, but I do expect them to be significantly better than they were last season.

Yeah, that's what happened. The jersey "fell" over Lundbohm's head. Marriucci defies gravity! :p

I would've been attacked by all the dorky hall-monitor types that frequent this site if I would've said this.

I called the Gophers suckwads a few days ago and those people are still bent out of shape about it.

Because you're an idiot when it comes to <strike>hockey</strike> anything.

I know Bro Gin personally, and he'll state the facts (good and bad) when it comes down to it. I don't even taunt him after a tough Sioux loss. Yeah, he's that ok of a guy.

You on the other hand are trying to claim the title of being the Sioux version of Happy, only less smart.

I don't care what the lines end up being. I just want there to be real competition for playing time.

I just want the team to show a desire to compete during the games. They dropped a lot of deuces last season.

Re: Time to drop a deuce: the second MN Gopher Offseason Thread

I actually don't expect to see Barriball and Cepis on the same line, as least to start the season. Just speculation, but I think the desire will be there to place those guys on separate lines in order to provide a bit more depth in scoring.

I tend to agree with you. I think Lucia will have Hoeffel and Cepis switching off. I'm sure there will be lots of line combinations until what.....March 2011?;) I'm not a big fan of that strategy.

I think competition for playing time will help to create that very scenario.

Yeah, it's why I can't post about the Twins here anymore.

Great article link originally posted on GPL from Let's Play Hockey about the Gopher program.

I think they made the case very well. This complements Wodon's piece and isn't an opinion piece at all.
Gee why do they always have to have articles about the Gophers ? Its just not fair to UND or any of the other WCHA teams :(

It only works when the players are healthy and sitting around waiting for their chance.

Exactly. And that kind of blew up in their face the last couple of years. This year there's 27 guys on the team and dare I say it, no sacred cows.

Winner!

The Gophers need more effort from everybody from the coaches to the sixth line center.
