Ticket Prices - Are any as outrageous as Harvard's?

Re: Ticket Prices - Are any as outrageous as Harvard's?

If the arena allows re-entry, just re-fill it during an intermission.

Not only do they not allow re-entry during a specific game, they don't allow re-entry between games of the WCHA tournament, which is completely ridiculous. Instead of being able to go out and get some better food (and an adult beverage or two) before the second semi-final, you just have to sit around for an hour or so.

Yeah, tell me about it. At the Frozen Four three years ago I was not allowed to go out and put change in the meter when the final went to OT. They had an guy at the back door, and I was parked right outside the door. I said "Hey, let me run and put some change in...I can do it and be back before the door even closes." He said no, and it cost me $50. I should have parked in the lot across the street and paid the $10.

Re: Ticket Prices - Are any as outrageous as Harvard's?

Based on the reports on this thread, here's a list of Women's Hockey Ticket Prices. In each case I went with the highest figure reported. Obviously there are a myriad of potential discounts; some based on age, some for special occasions, and so on. The list:

$15 Harvard

$12 Minnesota-Duluth

$10 Minnesota, CIS Schools

$ 8 St. Cloud State, UW-Superior

$ 7 North Dakota, New Hampshire

$ 6 Boston University, MSU-Mankato

$ 5 Wisconsin, Northeastern, RPI, St. Norbert

$ 4 Clarkson, Colgate

$ 2 St. Lawrence (Exhibition Game Rate)

FREE Boston College, Ohio State, Brown, Princeton, Maine, Providence, Syracuse

So at least thus far, the answer to the thread title appears to be a pretty firm No.

That is ridiculous. In most places where they charge, the door people usually disappear sometime before the 2nd intermission.

Re: Ticket Prices - Are any as outrageous as Harvard's?

I have season tickets for both Harvard men's and women's hockey so was not sure about single game prices but checked and they did go to $15 for women's game tickets sold at the door. If you buy in advance they are still $10. The season tickets for women's hockey are $140 for the 15 home games of the regular season. If you have season tickets you can buy a season parking pass for $100 instead of paying $10 per game.

Harvard should be trying to increase the fan base rather than driving them away with high prices. One positive change this year is that the have changed the age for free admission from 6 and under to 12 and under which should encourage people to bring young hockey players to games.

As a well-documented Wildcat fan, I agree with your comment regarding growing the fan base. Women's hockey certainly needs to do just that. I am always looking for other games to watch in addition to UNH, and used to go to a number of Harvard games, particularly when they play teams I don't get to see, or rivals that always prove to be a good game, and I am happy to buy a ticket and "sit down and be counted". Season tickets to Harvard games are not something that would be a good investment for an outsider, and often attending these games is not planned well enough in advance to take advantage of the discount. Last year, when confronted at the gate with the new ticket price, after paying to park (sure, I could have driven around town looking for a space, but it's rare that I can attend a weekend game, and I barely can get to the rink in time for the game after work), it turns into a pretty expensive two hours. I haven't been to Bright this year, and since the Beanpot is at Northeastern, I probably won't elect to see Harvard at home because that $25.00 is more valuable to me somewhere else. Multiply me by at least a dozen or more other non-Harvard, but avid women's hockey fans, and we add up.

I would be curious to learn why the cost is so high, and if it appears to have affected attendance.

Re: Ticket Prices - Are any as outrageous as Harvard's?

I have a vague memory that the women's games used to be free. Parking too.

In any event, I can say that I attend fewer games lately because of the ridiculous cost.

Re: Ticket Prices - Are any as outrageous as Harvard's?

How much does Harvard charge for men's games?

$20 online for adults; $10 for youth and students, $0 for HU undergraduates

Think prices go up $5 at the door (except for the undergrads) too but I've never bought my tickets at the door, so don't know for sure.

The ticket prices vary depending on the opponent. If you buy online, certain game tickets are $15, $20 at the door. Again, depends on the opponent.

Yeah, forgot about that. I was looking at the UMass-Lowell game too, so I thought that would be one of the cheaper tickets (no offense to UML fans) as opposed to the harder tickets of the Ivies, etc.

Are the women's tickets also under variable pricing?

Last night's game against Providence was $15 at the door. I have seen variable pricing if you order online vs. at the door but last night seemed to be an exception?

Well it looks to me the men's and women's tickets are similar. There should be a happy medium somewhere. Not in Minnesota however. $40 men's, $10 women's?

I wonder how far we'd have to go back for a $15 Minnesota men's hockey ticket? It's outrageous nowadays in my opinion.
