Ticket Price Elasticity: How high would you go?

Re: Ticket Price Elasticity: How high would you go?

It looks like Sioux hockey tickets are at a premium. Ticket prices vary quite a bit. Non-conf games are $25, conf games are $35, DU games are $40 and UMTC games are $50. Student prices are $7, or $10 for UMTC games. Makes you wonder how they can put 11,864 people in the place for every game.

$2,400 a game for an 18 person luxury suite. That's $133 per person. Order now they won't last long.

At the Ralph, that's actually not a bad deal at all.

I know at MTU, I think it's a 50 person for the Presidential suite, and it ran $30/head. My capacity numbers might be off, though.

Dunno what it is for a reg suite.

BU Season Ticket Prices

BU Season Ticket Prices

I have gone through my old tickets and recent invoices and here is the annual per game price for BU season tickets for the past 2 decades. Starting with the 2008-09 season BU has charged $2 more per game for 6 games (vs BC, UNH, UVM and Maine) which is why the average price is not an even dollar amount.

Season BU
1990-91 - $ 8.00
1991-92 - $ 8.00
1992-93 - $ 8.00
1993-94 - $10.00
1994-95 - $10.00
1995-96 - $11.00
1996-97 - $11.00
1997-98 - $11.00
1998-99 - $12.00
1999-00 - $12.00
2000-01 - $14.00
2001-02 - $14.00
2002-03 - $16.00
2003-04 - $18.00
2004-05 - $18.00
2005-06 - $18.00
2006-07 - $20.00
2007-08 - $20.00
2008-09 - $21.67
2009-10 - $21.67
2010-11 - $22.71

I am also working on individual ticket prices for the other HE teams, NCAA regionals and FF, Beanpot and HE Championship.

Re: BU Season Ticket Prices

Here's what your 1990 ticket level would have cost each year with inflation (in parentheses).

Season BU
1990-91 - $ 8.00
1991-92 - $ 8.00 ($8.43)
1992-93 - $ 8.00 ($8.78)
1993-94 - $10.00 ($9.04)
1994-95 - $10.00 ($9.32)
1995-96 - $11.00 ($9.56)
1996-97 - $11.00 ($9.83)
1997-98 - $11.00 ($10.12)
1998-99 - $12.00 ($10.35)
1999-00 - $12.00 ($10.52)
2000-01 - $14.00 ($10.75)
2001-02 - $14.00 ($11.12)
2002-03 - $16.00 ($11.43)
2003-04 - $18.00 ($11.61)
2004-05 - $18.00 ($11.88)
2005-06 - $18.00 ($12.20)
2006-07 - $20.00 ($12.61)
2007-08 - $20.00 ($13.02)
2008-09 - $21.67 ($13.38)
2009-10 - $21.67 ($13.89)
2010-11 - $22.71 ($13.84)

I don't know what's up with the deflation from last year. The calculator might be bollocks up. But at any rate, that's a 64% increase in ticket costs since you started buying.

BTW, according to the calculator, if BU leaves their rates alone and only adjusts for inflation, you'll pay $46.41 per game in 2020-21.

Re: Ticket Price Elasticity: How high would you go?

I'd imagine they'll just keep increasing until they see a significant difference in season ticket sales.

BC used to charge a flat rate of $20 per game regardless of opponent for season tickets. There are only 13 home games this year, so that would have been $260. They've changed that philosophy, however, in recent years. The total amount for the 13 games this year is $221. That comes out to $17 per game.

Wait, you mean like the invisible hand? YOU DON'T SAY!

Re: Ticket Price Elasticity: How high would you go?

There is a rumored increase in beer prices at the Ralph - $8 for an 8 ounce beer and $12 for a 12 ounce beer.

Red Cloud, thanks for that information. We have had tickets since 1985, but they were either student or young alumni season tickets, so the prices would not be the same as for regular season tickets.

The building of Agganis Arena was the major reason ticket prices rose so quickly from 1999 to 2003 ($6 in four seasons). The rate of increase has been slower since then ($4.71 in seven seasons).

As for the future inflation, what rate did you use?

For the upcoming season, are any tickets more expensive than BU's $22.71 per game?

you sure you aren't talking Madison Sq Garden or Boston Garden with those prices? gotta be kidding me..............but, at least you can buy beer;) we can't:mad:

Re: Ticket Price Elasticity: How high would you go?

I think $50 is probably my limit. As much as I love the Badgers and enjoy watching them play, there is only so much money in the budget.
One of the things I really love about college hockey is how affordable the ticket prices are. If the ticket prices get too out of line, I might be tempted to become more of a Milwaukee Admirals fan.

Several that I know of have higher priced tickets:

UND - Non-con $25, Conference, $35, vs. Denver $40, vs Minnesota $50

Minnesota - $35 for single reserved seats and $25 for standing room. Wisconsin game standing room is $32

Colorado College - Top ticket is $35

Denver - $27 for most games, and $32 for BC, CC and Wisconsin

Michigan $25

Wisconsin $22 + 'donation' seats are more

Are those season ticket prices? The BU individual ticket prices are $24 or $26 for an average of $24.71 over the 17 games.

Not sure what the calculator's programmer used for that... probably some kind of projection, but future projections are obviously to be taken with a grain of salt.

was it really the construction of Agganis? because there has been a $1 -$2 per ticket consistent increase every 2-3 years, regardless of the Agganis effect except for the one year where it i guess was the Agganis effect:confused: i'm wondering if that made any sense at all;) ......sure wish it was october:(

Re: Ticket Price Elasticity: How high would you go?

No - these are individual game prices, not season ticket.
UW gets $18 for Friday games and $19.50 for Saturday games if you buy season tickets. They have it broken up it, "face-off" (Friday games) and, "slap-shot" (Saturday games).
The single game price is $22 for the 100 level, 200 level and the first rows of the 300 level and $18 for the D section of the 300 level.

I only mentioned the highest single game ticket prices for each school, since J.D. was asking if there were more expensive tickets out there than BU's $22.71.
