We enter the final two weeks of the regular season.
A lot of games on tap, as I have included the UNH@BU next wed for simplicity.
Here's hoping that there aren't further weather issues to muck things up even more.

Re: This Week in Hockey East

TTT - have you checked out the tiebreakers in the event BC and BU finish tied for 1st in Hockey East? Lancer pointed this out to me yesterday since there is a very good chance that both teams could win out and finish in a dead heat.

Tiebreakers:

1 - Head to Head (BC & BU 1-1-1)
2 - Number of wins in conference play (18 if both teams win out)
3 - Best record against 1st place, then 2nd place, then 3rd place and so on...until one team has an edge (identical records vs. ALL league opponents if they both win out)
4 - Coin flip by Joe Bertagna using lucky double-sided bald Eagle-headed coin...hmmm

Here's hoping UNH can help out your Eagles this week. :)

Talked to a BU player not long ago, and it is my understanding that if both teams win out, or have identical records down the stretch, it will be a coin flip. What a lousy way to decide a title. You would think they can come up with a few extra tiebreakers, like head to head goal differential, least penalties or something like that, and if you cannot do that, just award a shared title or something.

Re: This Week in Hockey East

Yes indeed, Joe and I have been all over that possibility... what REALLY would have been nuts is if HEA still had the #1 seed host the tournament... That would have been a stressful coin flip!

Honestly though both teams would claim a shared title. The coin flip is for seeding. And there isn't a whole lot of difference in playing UConn vs. Maine.

Ah, Maine can throw a monkey wrench in the works where UConn can't.

Re: This Week in Hockey East

thought hockey east provided a buy to teams 1 and 2 in the first round. in the first round 3 plays 6 while 4 plays 5. teams 7 and 8 start playing spring softball immediately. based upon the results of 3/6 and 4/5 teams 1 and 2 are scheduled. at least that is the way it used to be unless something changed.

Re: This Week in Hockey East

The Hockey East playoffs have been expanded this year to include all 8 teams. There were a few seasons where the #1 and #2 seeds lost after having a bye week. Personally I'd like to see them go to a Best-of-Three format in quarterfinals like the men's side and in the ECAC & WCHA as well.

I would as well. I think playing those games in order to keep moving on is a much better prep for post season play. You have to dig deep and bring it through a series of games in a short period of time, which is much more difficult at the end of the season, and is likely to result in the strongest teams emerging, and emerging stronger (providing they also emerge intact).
