The Women's Hockey Belt Is Back

Re: The Women's Hockey Belt Is Back

Bump.

The Belt is back in Dinkytown. Also good to see that Hamline did not take the belt into the D3 ranks. Per the notes at the end of the article in the link below, there was another instance when The Belt was contested by a D3 team.

To update for the current season...
Wisconsin held the Belt in series and wins:
9/27 & 28 @Lindenwood;
10/4 & 5 vs Penn State;
10/11 & 12 @Ohio State;
10/18 & 19 @LIU-Brooklyn;
10/26 & 27 vs Bemidji State.

Minnesota won the belt on 11/2 in Minneapolis from Wisconsin, and retained it:
11/3 vs Wisconsin (tie);
11/15 & 16 vs Bemidji State.

The next defense will be in Duluth on 11/22 & 23. If the Gophers are fortunate enough to return home with The Belt, they would then be able to take it to Nashville, TN for a defense. I doubt that the women's Belt has ever been to Tennessee.

Re: The Women's Hockey Belt Is Back

BC gonna win the belt LET'S GOOOOOO
Assuming Minnesota even has it. And if the Eagles DO win it, you know that they're just going to hand it right back to the Badgers the next day. It's so BC. :(

Look if anything other than "BC is swept" happens that weekend it's going to be a monumental positive.

Wisconsin won the belt on 1/24 against Minnesota and retained it until losing it to
Minnesota State (!!!) on 2/8.
Minnesota Duluth claimed it in the very next game on 2/14 before
Wisconsin took it back on February 21st.
Ohio State claimed the belt with their 1-0 win in the WCHA title game.

Congratulations to your 2020 National Champion Ohio State Buckeyes!

Re: The Women's Hockey Belt Is Back

The way they were playing at the end of the year, I could have visualized them hoisting the Trophy...

Not sure what would have happened as there were several teams in the NCAA Tournament that could have won it all, but my Buckeye Women were playing their best hockey of the year at the right time. It was sad that they and the other teams didn't get a chance to settle it on the ice. I feel for the seniors who were lacing them up for the last time and had their college careers end that way.

Ohio State held the belt after the last games of the covid shortened 2019-20 season.
Opened 20-21 season by losing belt to Minnesota before winning it back in game 2.
Defeated Wisconsin in game 3 before Wisconsin claims the belt in game 4, November 28.
Wisconsin holds the belt for 3 games before losing it back to Ohio State on January 9, 2021.
January 15, UMD wins in Duluth to claim the prize but OSU reclaims on the 16th.
Ohio State loses at Minnesota on Jan 29 but wins it back on Jan 30 and holds the belt until losing the WCHA finals on March 7 to Wisconsin.
Wisconsin holds the belt until Friday when the Belt follows the Axe back to Minnesota. Gophers retain the prize with a tie on Saturday afternoon.

Oh sure, as if Team Duluth needs extra incentive for this coming weekend. {wink}
