The University of Notre Dame Hockey: 09-10. Let's Live It Up!

Re: The University of Notre Dame Hockey: 09-10. Let's Live It Up!

Troll alert, JJFP! Troll alert, JJFP!!

Do not mind me when I say it is downright embarrassing for someone who fashions herself an expert beyond reproach to not know that a 5-minute checking from behind penalty brings with it an automatic 10 minute muisconduct penalty. Do you really watch the games, JJFP, or do you go to games just to chit chat with your girlfriends? Have you never seen a checking from behind penalty called or have you just been doing your finger nails every time one was called? I am embarrassed for you for even thinking that "the captain" got a 10 minute misconduct for anything but the check from behind, let alone for mouthing off to the ref. You can discount me as a troll, JJFP, but you have discounted yourself with the ignorance you demonstrate in order to haul off on "the captain." And somehow linking your comments to the anniversary of the assassination of President Kennedy, well, if your venom was not so apparent, I would just wonder what brilliant analysis you were making that I could not comprehend. Alas, it was just a potent combination of venom and ignorance. But don't mind me, I'm just a troll.

And don't mind me, JJFP, when I say you compound your ignorance by assuming (and you do know what they say you make yourself when you ASSume, JJFP, don't you?) that "the captain" was benched by the coach to send a message to the team. When it turns out that "the captain" didn't play because he was injured, your ASSumption, in fact, made you into one. You may be happy "the captain" was injured, but your ASSumption revealed your personal animus. But don't mind me, I'm just a troll.

So, from your embarrasingly ignorant, malicious and faulty premise of the misconduct penalty followed by the benching to send a message, it is no great leap to link those wrong assumptions to the team's best performance of the season. Is your point to relieve "the captain" of the 'C' or that the team's best lineup is with "the captain" sitting in the stands? You are the expert, JJFP, and I am just a troll, you tell me.

Your feelings about "the captain" have been known, JJFP, but the depth of your dislike is clearly revealed by the embarrassing ignorance upon which you will rely to launch an assault. Hard to imagine what the kid has done to warrant your nasty personal attacks, oh wait, he took two minor penalties late in a game once. With fans like you, the team doesn't need to play road games.

I am embarrassed that I am a troll, JJFP. You, however, should be absolutely humiliated.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Re: The University of Notre Dame Hockey: 09-10. Let's Live It Up!

Having no idea one way or the other, I will only say that coaches can come up with some clever reasons to sit players if they don't want a big deal made of it by fans and media.

"Upper body" or "Lower body" injury are the ones sometimes chosen.

Also, after a player has gotten a 5 and 10, would the refs feel it necessary to give another 10 for arguing?

Re: The University of Notre Dame Hockey: 09-10. Let's Live It Up!

I am very sorry, I didn't realize Thang got a 5 minute checking from behind penalty, the accompanying 10 minute misconduct and then another 10 minute misconduct penalty for yapping ("pleading his case," as JJFP says). I thought he only got the 5 and 10.

That is my mistake. I should have read the box score more carefully, then I would have known he got 25 PIMs, not just 15. Honest mistake, as I'm sure JJFP's errors were.

In my defense, I'm only a troll.

I'm not saying he got another one, I haven't even looked at the box score.(Edit: Looks like 17 PIM on Thursday) I'm only asking if a ref would even have added another 10, as it wouldn't have made one bit of difference. Also, perhaps the coach heard something on the ice he felt crossed a line?

I agree! She definitely apologized that she was wrong! ...calm down!

First, I would have assumed that Thang was benched for the misconduct if I didn't happen to hear the announcement. That's an easy assumption to make without any other hint. You don't need to point on JJFP.

2nd, JJFP was just joking on the coincidence that the boys had the best game without their captain, which was indeed funny in some way. I don't see any "venom" in this. People turn to joke on any players or couch or anyone they found somewhat funny.

3rd, you don't wear a player's jersey to every game if you have venom towards him, do you? You might not know JJFP enough to make that comment...

4th, I agree with IHF: GO RUNNING, which would help you to calm down. Trust me. I do it every time when the team played too bad or exceptionally good. It works perfectly.

Re: The University of Notre Dame Hockey: 09-10. Let's Live It Up!

grantfan I hope you're not a d ic k in real life like you are here, because people like that tend to get hit a lot in real life, and I'd hate to see anything like that befall you. Then again, no I wouldn't mind it at all.

When I asked -- somewhat rhetorically I might add -- if anyone knew why Thang wasn't playing Sunday, the last thing I thought was injury. I saw no indication of it, although in fairness to the "official" reason, the nebulous upper-body injury is often less apparent than its counterpart, the often equally nebulous lower-body injury.

But Thang leads this team in both penalties served and minutes in penalties. He's taken a few at bad times, and although Thursday's penalty was questionable (I don't feel it was as bad as some others who saw it, but that's just my opinion), it still carried with it the requirement he miss the rest of the game. I want my Captain to remain IN the game, and ON the ice.

In addition, his point totals have plummeted over the course of his time here, from a point a game guy his Freshman season, to now just netting 4 points in his 13 games. Something is going on here, and whether or not anyone got the reasons wrong for his absence yesterday, his play has not lived up to what he's done in the past, expecially his first two seasons here. Jeff Jackson places an extremely high value on the leadership of his captains, more than a lot of coaches, and places tremendous responsibility in them to maintain the correct mindset and culture in that lockerroom. I think at this point it is more than fair to look at some of the leadership delivered so far on this squad. Is Thang living up to the mantle of responsibility placed upon him? His play and the lack of cohesiveness on the team through much of the season lead me to believe the question is fair. Is it why a team that most figured would have piled up quite a few wins by now has struggled to be just a game over .500? I can't answer that, JJfP can't answer that and idiots like grantfan sure as hell can't answer that. But the question is worth asking. Besides, look at the way some fans rake their players and coaches over the coals in some of the threads of the more visible programs in the WCHA or HEA. They make most of what happens in this thread downright tame.

And another thing grantfan, you need to get it through your incredibly thick skull and burned into your 6 functional brain cells that the vast majority of those of us who bother posting in the ND threads (that includes most of the regular guests from other teams like the classy MSU or FSU or WMU or UM fans who show up occasionally as well as others) are quite well versed in this sport and this team. Blowing off steam about an underperforming captain, or anyone else, or the whole team doesn't indicate a lack of knowledge. Even if one gets some of the pertinent facts wrong. You on the other hand probably offer a constant indication of your lack of knowledge every time you bother to open your fool mouth.

Re: The University of Notre Dame Hockey: 09-10. Let's Live It Up!

I don't particularly care why Thang didn't play yesterday, but I agree with the thoughts expressed that this was the best the team has looked so far this season. Coincidence it was without Ryan Thang dressed? Who knows? But I don't believe in coincidence in most cases. Not saying that applies here, just saying.

Oh and grantfan, full disclosure here, JJfP is my sister, and while I may not have always treated her with the requisite kindness one would expect from a sibling, she seems to have an awful lot of fans among the some of the parents and family members from what I have seen. You, on the other hand, probably have no friends, and parents who are ashamed of you. Get a life dude. Then take that life and go crawl under a rock someplace where you can't infect the rest of us with your rabid stupidity.

Now back to our regularly scheduled thread...

Re: The University of Notre Dame Hockey: 09-10. Let's Live It Up!

JJFP is well recognized as one of the strongest ND hockey fans. Her as well as Mr. JJFP make the games fun. She knows what she's talking about! The only reason I knew why Thang wasn't playing was b/c I was listening to it on the radio. Others who went to the game didn't know until I told them. Dont dog on people who are respected more than you!

Re: The University of Notre Dame Hockey: 09-10. Let's Live It Up!

I do think it's really cool when someone so respected and admired and loved and worshipped and listened to and followed doesn't know that a checking from behind penalty is accompanied by a 10 minute misconduct. Hey, nobody likes to see girls at hockey games more than me.

Offsides is another tough one to keep straight.

Re: The University of Notre Dame Hockey: 09-10. Let's Live It Up!

You know what I find oddly annoying? The checkout girl at the grocery store today did not know the difference between Pepsi products and Coke products. She sounded like she grew up in this country. How could she not know, working in a grocery store, that Mt. Dew is a Pepsi thing and Coke is a, well, you know...?!

For the record:

1. I do not hate Ryan Thang. On the contrary, I think he is an extremely accommodating, gregarious, fun-loving kid.

2. I do not think he is a bad/lazy/overrated hockey player. He has lots of raw talent and seems to work hard every day in practice and in games.

3. I don't like him as a captain.

4. Apparently, I missed the flyer stating that as a fan of Irish hockey, I must unquestioningly approve of and love every decision and action done by all members of this program at all times.

5. I hate cops and all politicians. Our system of government isn't too high on my list, either. Ergo, I must be un-American.

Re: The University of Notre Dame Hockey: 09-10. Let's Live It Up!

You are welcome to move to Norway or Sweden with me! ;) :D

Hey, you buy the plane ticket and find me a job, and I'm there. Your pics of the Northern Lights were phenomenal! National Geographic needs you!

Did you visit one of those igloo-like hotels you see on the Travel Channel? Those are wild!

Thanks! I really wish you were the admin of NG, then my life would be much much easier!:D

The first the Ice Hotels is in Northern Sweden, where I'm still deciding if to go before Christmas, but probably just choose to go to Norway again to help a guy building a viking sailing boat... I'm overwhelmed by all the crazy ideas right now. God knows how much I love Europe...

I'm going to Prague tomorrow, and I've checked the 2 hockey teams' schedules. Sadly they both only have games one day before I arrive and one day after I leave:(

And the Sweden trip is no luck with hockey either. The teams there don't have home game during my stay...... I MISS GAMES IN A REAL ARENA!!

Grantfan, a troll is someone who comes in to a thread for the sole purpose of disrupting it, so in that, you definitely have yourself pegged. However, on a more worrisome note, your only appearances in this forum have been to attack one of the regular posters here, and that behavior is starting to look dangerously close to stalking. Most of us here have some tolerance for pure stupidity that seems to make up the average troll. The same can't be said for us on the issue of stalking. You might want to think real carefully about that image you are starting to project before you put in your next appearance here.
