THE University of Michigan 2010-2011 Season Thread

Re: THE University of Michigan 2010-2011 Season Thread

I am surpirsed THIS thread is still going. I would have thought someone would have started an offseason thread before now!

Too little traffic. We are not like the techies- who are already on their 2nd OFFSEASON thread. Didn't even make it to half way during the season.

No reason to make a new one until the new season, I think. Or at least until the alumni game in August.

Comrie and Tambellini weren't blindingly fast either.

They COULD change direction and handle the stick like nobodies business.

Could, sure. And I'm sure he is a very good player.

But I would rather keep the expectations low, and let him grow into a role. I don't expect him to change the team as soon as he steps on the ice, and don't see the point in expecting him to. he's a good, last moment, add to the 2011 team.

The pressure should be on the guys returning who are not scoring.

This probably isnt news to anybody but I just saw that Talcott, Motte, and Compher were all drafted into the OHL.

Talcott - 13th Round - Sarnia

Motte - 10th Round - Sarnia

Compher - 11th Round - Saginaw

saw it on collegehockeysource.com

alot about Michigan on the site.

Hey Professor, you forgot to list Evan Allen to Windsor as well. Best website ever!

No big deal. What matters is this year. As we can see Red knows how to reload regardless of who breaks thier commitment. The last minute pick up he made with Hyman trumps Lessio by a million miles. I really like Chiasson too. He's a good solid Dman. Also Red picked up Serville during the season he will be very good as well.

I have seen all of them play and when you add Gibson and Guptill I would say that this upcoming season's class is as good as any and one of the best for next season if not the best.

Michigan always draws the cream of the crop.

I could not agree more!

Drafted is one thing - going there is something else. We will see where each ends up.

I agree what matters is this season and Michigan is loaded as usual.
Gigantic unexpected pick ups
like a boxer on the ropes that comes out with both fists flying.
Could a National Championship be on the horizon?

Could a National Championship be on the horizon?

The previous season, RIT, BC, Wisconsin, and Miami.
None made it to the frozen four. Michigan swung and missed.
Now they will wait a couple more years to turn the team over.

Considering how close we have come with teams that should not have, and how far we have been with teams that should, well- anything can happen.

An NC is always on the horizon, the question is whether the team finishes the journey.

Breaking it down:
great returning goaltending and great incoming goalie
stellar D
lost some fire punch up front but added big guns

this is a recipe for success:D

If you have that, it really doesn't mean everything. Chemistry is a lot more important (see Jack Johnson teams- during vs. post- the team was had a lot more talent when he was on the team, yet... the post made it to the FF). If they can put together what they've had, I think there is a good chance of a great season. But they really need to focus on embracing the incoming team members.

Re: THE University of Michigan 2010-2011 Season Thread

I fixed it.... thanks Mel.......

Great reason to be excited with the addition of Mel and Mucker, but don't make room for those banners just yet.
There is a tremendous gulf these days between average programs and elite programs and most of it is due to the economic draws a given school has and recruiting.
I wish MTU well, but it will take a long time to compete h2h for top flight talent against the established programs- especially in the condition that program is in. If anyone can do it though, Mel can.

It also sounds like Dave Brandon is not standing pat on the laurels of the Michigan Hockey program. He has already declared what his requirements will be for a future head coach; Has engineered a major renovation of Yost, possibly to help compete against the economics of the other BTC schools facilities and to utilize the growing fan base; Has already indicated that Michigan Hockey is under utilizing its "Market Branding" and will promote it harder. And, thankfully, Red & co. has pulled in some nice talent late to backfill some of the offensive juice that graduated. Losing Burlon wasn't a surprise, it appears his heart was set on leaving, no matter what Berenson thought about it. There is adequate depth there, though, and it will not be any surprise when Merrill does the same thing after this coming season. Brian Wiseman should be a fine addition to the staff in Mel's place and can come into the role running.

On the scheduling front, there is excitement about another potential outdoor game in Cleveland against the Bucks, and the announcement of a game against Northeastern in the Thanksgiving slot voided by the exit of the CHS.
