The States: Where We Wish Texas Would Secede Already

5mn is a very weird dude. Very very liberal but also very very Xtian. Also he and I got in a spat because he said he didn't believe there was Antisemitism in Europe. (he later clarified it) I had him blocked on another board because when it came to the Gophers he would often spam with some really ridiculous takes.

Overall not a bad guy but on certain topics just very militant.

?

Anti-vaxer?

Not really. But he was very elitist and thought he knew way more than he did.

One example was where he argued that if you didn't take the time to see a subspecialist/world expert you do not care about your health. Super privileged bullshit It is common trait in the Mayo/Cleveland Clinic/etc* cult. Rich patients get treated like VIPs but what is missing is evidence that their outcomes are any better. Ask nearly anyone in medicine who has treated a "VIP" and they will tell you they got worst care.

I am a subspecialist and although I do not know everything about everything in medicine (my dad jokes I learned more and more about less and less until I know everything about nothing) I can tell when people do not know what they are talking about. A keen bullshit detector is a skill needed in a large medical center so you can identify other good docs to send your patients to when you need help.

*There are certainly amazing docs/practitioners at these institutions but it is a delusion to think that just because that name is on the white coat, you are getting superior care.

That might have been Tiggsy? I had a long go-round with him/her back in the days of Bob Grey and FF.

Oh yeah Tiggsy! Havent seen them around here in a looooooooooooooooooooooooong time. Never had much issue with them on any topic but never discussed medical stuff so wouldnt know.

Well I'm predisposed to like him so far...

Yeah that charge could probably put on most of us on here :)

But he did it on the one topic I actually do know much more than the average person. And on a serious note, I have worked significantly in underserved communities where patients struggle to get to appointments, have insurance, etc so it is a pretty sore spot for me. One of the few times (ignoring when I first joined USCHO as an "edgy" undergrad) that I resorted to personal insults.

It's like the guy here (I genuinely forget who) who keeps arguing with uno on law.

Why is that? Are they treating the patient's money, not the patient? (I've been told that happens in psychiatry).

I feel as a mostly lurker...I am usually the one who derails threads more often than not.

But places like Mayo, Cleveland Clinic (CCF) and other hospitals to a lesser degree have corporate packages/VIP/whatever brand name where the worried well see every specialist to make sure they are healthy. This is a recipe for false positives and iatrogenic harm from the medical system. You can pay CCF something like 100K a year and they will fly you back to the main hospital from essentially anywhere in the world at any point for a health issue. They have floors they will block off for celebs, royalty, etc. Often, a chair of a department will see a patient which is not really the best idea much of the time.

As a resident, a family member of the CEO of our hospital system came in on a Friday night. There were 4 department chairs in at bedside. No one could make a decision. No one knew how to order anything. She ended up in the wrong ICU (didn't need ICU care anyway). If it was left to us residents she would have gotten much superior care. Although once she was on our floor eventually....we got the rooms repainted because they needed it.

How do we reform that?

(I mean, besides death to capitalism, which, well duh.)

I definitely noted this with my hospital's vaccination clinic at first. Managers wanted to be the one to show their face, "serve" the staff and do the little things like check folks in, document the administration, give the EUA info, etc. After spending hours there with them I think that they all meant well. They were excited, they were happy and they wanted to be positive and encourage the staff (after 9 months of intense hell).

But the problem was, while they may be totally capable managers, they didn't know how to use any of the EHR tools. We spent so long working up tip sheets and trainings and holding hands to show them how to use the tools... that their staffs all knew because they used them 40-60 hours per week.

Dude got angry with me when I dared suggest the New Testament contained more books than Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. He was also adamant atheist/non-religious contributed jack squat to the world.

Yeah...easy way to get under his skin was mention the times Christianity and its followers were responsible for evil acts! That always got him on tilt!

I'm sure he was big on Acts and Paul's Letters. Those types love that crap. WHAT HAS ATHENS TO DO WITH JERUSARGLEBARGLE!!!1!

I suspect John the Revelator put the wind up him, though. To be fair it was all cribbed from creepy Asian mystery cult gibberish like the stories of the virgin birth and resurrection oopsy.

No, he was the Buddist Christian, who ignored the entire bible except for the gospels and basically said anything bad = not christian, anything good = christian.
