I feel as a mostly lurker...I am usually the one who derails threads more often than not.
But places like Mayo, Cleveland Clinic (CCF) and other hospitals to a lesser degree have corporate packages/VIP/whatever brand name where the worried well see every specialist to make sure they are healthy. This is a recipe for false positives and iatrogenic harm from the medical system. You can pay CCF something like 100K a year and they will fly you back to the main hospital from essentially anywhere in the world at any point for a health issue. They have floors they will block off for celebs, royalty, etc. Often, a chair of a department will see a patient which is not really the best idea much of the time.
As a resident, a family member of the CEO of our hospital system came in on a Friday night. There were 4 department chairs in at bedside. No one could make a decision. No one knew how to order anything. She ended up in the wrong ICU (didn't need ICU care anyway). If it was left to us residents she would have gotten much superior care. Although once she was on our floor eventually....we got the rooms repainted because they needed it.
