Mitch laughed because he's being lectured by a woman about his failed leadership, and yet he's still going to win by at least 15 points because Kentucky is full of undereducated, Bible thumping dimwits who believe the claptrap about abortion being murder and any socialism leading to Stalinism. That was a "I know you losers are going to vote for me anyway" laugh.

The utter disdain Republicans have for women is amazing. It's a good thing they have so many Christian religiously trained women to vote for them cause no other woman in their right mind would.

Further discussion would likely be better off in the religion thread, but growing up it was disturbing to me to see my local church have a "men of god" type weekly meeting where they would get together to "discuss the bible," but it was more about how their wives should be more Stepford-ish because men rule the Bible. And their wives bought into it!

Old testament ways can't be gotten rid of fast enough.

I would go a step farther and say religiosity of all kinds cannot be gotten rid of fast enough. Religion may be an effective self help mechanism for some, but there are other ways to deal with the stress of being human.

But you're right: religion thread.

Magical thinking isn't reasonable. Unless by "higher power" you mean laws of nature don't change because we want them to.

I don't want religiosity to be done away with. It is the most useful and cost effective social control system humans created for dealing with the bottom half of the species. There has to be a way to convince people to not be as-sholes and at least half of humanity is not capable of getting that message in any other form than by a threat by some Cosmic Abusive Daddy. So, by all means, inculcate that, heck, even in the schools. It doesn't matter it's fake -- the folks who don't suss that out by 12 years old weren't going to accomplish anything anyway and this keeps the lid on them.

This guy has some sort of office space outside a building that a bunch of the doctor's offices I support are in, because he has a school bus with his name all over it parked there in Cambridge.

The guy is a loon.
