The Obamites are a classic example of the Mongols who "took over" China and were indistinguishable from the Chinese a generation later. I think we should save "trash" and "disease" for the fasc we are fighting, not fellow fighters we have issues with.

And I think throwing out accusations and demonizations without sources is bad whenever anybody does it. I am no fan of liberals, but I'm not going to call them the devil when we are facing an actual devil. That's a rhetorical luxury there is no room for now.

People are idealistic when they get into the machine, but driving the machine changes them. It would change you and me too, though -- I suspect they hated this as much or more than we when they started.

The only other path is kick over the table and start over. Build a strong Leftist party, do not compromise, keep building support as the Dems do nothing. Then, hostile takeover of the established brand. Keep the label and the legacy voters but import all the hard Left policies.

With what money? The far right takeover was bankrolled by numerous billionaires such as the Kochs and Thiel. Who’s funding the lefty takeover of the Democratic Party?

I don’t disagree with your second paragraph though.
 
There is a serious proposal from some members of Anchorage’s Assembly to fix housing costs in the city. The proposal:

- Eliminate all property taxes
- Institute a 14% sales tax

That’s it. That’s the proposal.

In a city where the vast majority of rental properties are owned by one company.

A company in Colorado BTW.
 
I am listening to a fantastic book on the Roman Republic and its downfall and the parallels to now are so vast its beyond parody.

Barring them being dumb enough to allow legit elections in 2/4 years the future is already mapped out. The Republic capitulated in an effort to save its norms more often than not...we either learn from that or we all emigrate out.

Most of these property taxes will be shifted to consumers through the sale price of their retailers’ goods, but not all of them. In short, corporate taxes are mildly backwards shifted, meaning that they cannot pass along the full costs of their taxes incurred because consumers’ pockets are only so deep. The same holds true for sales taxes. While average consumers aren’t calculating out to the penny the sales tax incurred, they know that they’re only willing to to pay $11 for their widget, and will pass it by if the retailer is posting it at $10.50, and the consumer knows that 8.75% sales tax will exceed their $11 personal cap.

That said, if the property taxes paid by business are baked into their sale price, but sales taxes are not included in stated prices, then they can sometimes force through a higher sales tax by blaming the government.

The unstated rub that the average person may not consider is that the removal of property taxes from the business owners should then lead to some marginal drop in listed prices for their goods, but how often does that truly happen? I’m not sure, but I’d wager it’s much closer to never than always.

Build enough support and the money follows the people who are going to be in power.

The Kochs and Thiel trail, they do not lead. They choose which Quizling to put in power, but they didn't move the country to the Right. The Democrats did that by being Republican Lite ever since Jimmy Carter.
