I didn't know that was actual law. I thought it was urban legend/guidelines/rule of thumb enough to make it true.

Sounds like the Republican legislature tied their hands. It was either give it away for preservation or lose a lot of state funding.
Dems won the NC governor's race last year. Time to cleanse the state leg of neo-Confederate snowflakes after redistricting.

Yeah, the christian taliban is back trying to kill women again. In Ohio they are trying to get a bill passed that will require doctors to reimplant ectopic pregnancies. This procedure does not exist.
THere is the potential for life in prison or the death penalty if you don't attempt this.

Leaving the state would be my guess. But I don't see the attraction in the first place. Tallahassee is Cincinnati with better weather.

I'm almost not kidding. This kind of bullsh-t at close range helps the smart kids figure out the game early. One of the worst aspects of the American con is it is insidious: it comes in through the back door of consumerism and mawkish sentimentalizing of military mass murder. But something this brazen and cynical can literally be seen through by a relatively bright fifth grader. Might as well start creating the next generation of disaffected protesters early. Come see the violence inherent in the system through detention.

Jean Shepherd used to tell great stories about working just across the river from Cincinnati in a "wide open town." Turns out it's a place called Newport Kentucky and it was famous for fifty years for its whorehouses and gambling and violence. It was essentially an experiment: what if you took the kind of people who vote Republican now and jammed them all into a city with no public assistance or infrastructure and they had to live by their wits.
As you might expect, they didn't live well. It was 1920s Shanghai for white trash.
