The States: Maybe A National Divorce Is A Good Idea After All

How is this acceptable? How? We're devolving as a species.

No, we're diverging.

Well, we know brain structure is genetic. It doesn't take too much a leap to know that an oversized amygdala relative to the frontal lobes is passed down through DNA. I was reading an article recently that talked about domesticated animals having significantly smaller adrenal glands than their closest wild relatives.

like I said either here or on Twitter, in a thousand years, the late 20th and early 21st centuries are when every anthropologist will point to as to when the species diverged.

I wondered how Ohio would allow the abortion vote this November.

republicans have ads out linking allowing abortion to mean providing gender affirming care for minors

Michigan passed our reproductive freedom amendment 57-43 during the 2022 midterms. Considering Ohio just elected that hack of a writer to a Senate post, and the overall trends of both states, I'm guessing Ohio's vote fails by about the same margin.

While polling data often sucks, it does currently show your belief to be mistaken.

A June, 2023 poll showed 58% of Ohians supported the planned amendment to Ohio's constitution that would protect women's reproductive rights, with language very similar to Michigan's IINM. When it became obvious that there was a good chance that voters would enshine these rights in Ohio's constitution the republicans in Columbus decided to hold a special election this August to change the law in Ohio to require a super majority of voters to change the constitution instead of the current simple majority, as well as other provisions that would make it much harder to get citizen driven issues onto the ballots. A similar percentage of voters -- 57% -- opposes this. The August vote is especially hypocritical because just last year, the same republicans voted to do away with August special elections because they are expensive and hardly anyone bothers to vote.

Beginning next week a good portion of my time will be devoted to getting people to vote "no" in August to changing the requirements to alter our constitution, and "yes" in November to protecting women's bodies from republicans. I was heartend yesterday while driving through some very rural parts of Lorain County (the county immediately to the west of Cuyahoga (Cleveland) County) to see 3 or maybe even 4 "Vote No On Issue 1" signs to every one I saw that advocated "Yes On Issue 1."

Yeah tbe Ohio issue is an inflection point...if Issue 1 doesn't pass DeWine is going to have a, por of headaches going forward.

You have to admire the hypocrisy of having a majority vote election to decide not to allow majorities make decisions.

You're all hysterical *******s and it will never be banned. You've been Daksplained.

Remember the time when it was explained to us that the Trump presidency might be a bad one, whatever happens, he'd never make any lasting impact on our government institutions, or politics in general.

Good times.

I bet if you go to Siouxsports you can relive it all since that is where a certain wussy EMP fearing security expert is hiding out.

ETA: I just went to that site for the first time ever. Sica has been doing A LOT of work this week in the only thread I read.

the hockey threads there do a pretty good job of staying away from politics. Sic is a good poster on those threads.
