Maine Democratic Gov. Janet Mills on Monday signed into law a bill that partially decriminalizes prostitution, with supporters saying the measure protects the most vulnerable while still targeting those who exploit them.

The bill, sponsored by Rep. Lois Reckitt, D-South Portland, eliminates the crime of engaging in prostitution. It also elevates the crime of solicitating a child for commercial sexual exploitation, lifting the crime from a misdemeanor to a felony with a maximum punishment of five years in state prison.

Is it that difficult to make profiting off sex you have yourself legal, but profiting off sex someone else has illegal?

You’d have to word it so that a non-participant can’t profit from one of the participants or something like that.

Wait solicitation of a child was a misdemeanor?

Bill to allow alcohol sales at college stadiums passes MI House, and will go back to the Senate where it already passed 36-2 in an earlier version before heading to Whitmer’s desk, who has voiced support in the past.

About time, if only from the standpoint that it made no sense that these teams can play in the NCAA tournament where alcohol is served, can play in neutral site tournaments and games where alcohol is served, can have official light beer, craft beer, and vodka sponsors, and allow alcohol for tailgating, but then the concessions inside are dry solely because they’re on campus.
