How do you figure?

Same way AR just did...

BREAKING: A federal judge struck down Arkansas' first-in-the-nation ban on gender-affirming care for children as unconstitutional, the first ruling to overturn such a prohibition as a growing number of Republican-led states adopt similar restrictions.

And this will be worse. If anything bad happens as a result of this the backlash and rubberband effect will be ridiculous. This is as bad of a miscalculation as the same TN republicans expelling the reps over their protest.

These clowns have skeletons and they have been trickling out for months due to their overreach. They gotta know more is about to come and it will not be pretty.

I wish I shared your optimism that sane people will come out and vote less crazy people into office, but I don't see it.

Tennessee is so gerrymandered that they could be literal skeleton killer pedo clowns running for office and the GOP will keep their supermajority. It's 75-24 (H)and 27-6 (S). Maybe they lose 1 or 2 seats for an election before they take it right back

Bold of you to assume the bigoted misogynistic transphobes who voted them into office will see any skeleton in their closet as something other than a reason to vote for them again.

Just goes to show that America can do big things, if they just have the will and determination to get it done.

And an open checkbook. Imagine the sh*t we could build if we could take a sliver of defense money and allocate it to transportation.

Or, in the name of national security, how about we start using that defense money anyway to upgrade our infrastructure. I wouldn't mind having Kepler as a boss...

And yet, whenever the big stuff talk starts, and people say " we should do this" or "we need to do this", you get everyone coming out of the woodwork crying "no, that costs too much", or "no, that idea is just unfeasible from the start" and " we just can't do that"

Mostly the usual group of suspects.

I don’t see removing debris, filling a hole in and paving it in 12 days that big of a deal. You guys need to get out more. Cianbro tore out bridges(north and south) on 295 in Portland starting Friday evening, moved the bridges from where they were built beside the old ones and had 295 open Sunday night.

Or maybe you need to go places were there is more than 12 people...

Not sure what population has to do with it, 295 is a spur off I95, has to be built to same federal standards as a bridge on I95 in Philly or maybe that’s a bad assumption on my part? That bridge in Philly is going to be built off to the side and moved into place just like it was in Portland. Cianbro works in DC all the time so it’s possible they will bid that job.

Building a bridge and sliding it in place is the best option to minimize disruption if you have the real-estate to build additional abutments to support the new bridge during its construction. It's usually done with railroads for that reason. Under "traditional" demolition and construction, traffic generally can be narrowed and the bridge replaced in sections.

Which, with zero knowlege of PennDOT's plan, looks to be what they're going to be doing on I-95. They filled in the center with what appears to be a mechanically stabilized embankment wall (each lift of stone is encased in a basket or wall panel with straps going horizontally behidn it supported by its own weight, and the weight of the subsequent lifts). The outside lanes were left empty (with traffic shifted to the center) so the abutments can be repaired and new bridge constructed. Then, they can shift traffic onto the bridge and remove the rock from the center section, and repeat the bridge building process.

It'll be done by the end of 2024.

Also, there's minimum requirements for interstate highways as issued by AASHTO, but each state has their own take on the construction means and methods. PennDOT specifications are different from MEDOT. Federal Highway Administrstion specs only apply to federal projects under direct administration of the FWA (IE Federal forest roads). Each state DOT oversees interstate construction/reconstruction and only receives Federal funding for the projects*.

*Some exceptions apply where states cannot accept any federal funding, like toll roads.

Really proud of Holland yesterday. During Pride yesterday, not only did the attendees outnumber the assholes by 20:1 at least, but when a handful of said assholes encroached the grounds, about 15 people stepped in front of the bullies with Pride flags and signs without making a noise.

Twin Falls Idaho had their pride event about 2 weeks ago and I was surprised/pleased with it's growth. I went to support a few friends who were there and it was more than double the size since the last one I had gone to a few years ago. And there were several local businesses represented along with a few local churches who were there to support abd welcome as well. And to my shock, I never saw a counter to the event. Not even anyone with a sign standing nearby or anything. There were some dumb comments in the local police Facebook page when they announced a few minor road closures for the parade that occurred earlier in the day or day before but ultimately everything went off without incident. I don't think it means the area is becoming more tolerant by any means but it was still good to see it be a nice, larger event.
