Apparently this dolt is running in a solid blue district, to the point Republicans didn't care who they fielded.

That's what a real revolution looks like. He's going to face an incredible amount of opposition and I wouldn't be surprised if he's targeted for violence. He's threatening decades of mindless ideology and a lot of very wealthy interests.

NASHVILLE — A bill requiring Tennessee schools to prominently display the national "In God We Trust" motto is headed to the governor for his signature.

The legislation, sponsored by Rep. Susan Lynn, R-Mount Juliet, overwhelmingly passed the state House on Monday with 81 of the 99 members voting in favor of it. Before the vote, the Republican lawmaker spoke from the House floor about the prominence of the phrase.

"Our national motto is on our money. It's on our license plates. It's part of our national anthem," Lynn said. "Our national motto and founding documents are the cornerstone of freedom and we should teach our children about these things."

The bill requires schools display the motto in a prominent location where students are likely to see it, like a school entryway, cafeteria or common area. It offers more freedom on what form it takes, suggesting that it could be a mounted plaque or student artwork.

They don't say which God, so I guess this means Sharia Law is cool in the schools?

Re: The States: Doing Their Own Thing...

Gotta be driven by something being overvalued in the model. Although I was thinking: if it goes by metrics like median prop values, a city without Poors would have a strong advantage. I don't think of Minneapolis as having slums or ghettos or even tough blue collar neighborhoods. And it's white as milk.

There are newly constructed condos in the city that are going for ~$300/mo. A lot of them. They're trying to pull in the high-end consumers that want everything a city has to offer.

We have North Mpls, which is the ghetto. This place may be 70% white, but we still have our mix of minorities. Less black, more a variety of Hispanic and Asians. The Hmongs are the biggest group of Asians, but they stay mostly towards the St. Paul side of the river.

300 a month!?! Sign me up for that ;)

Re: The States: Doing Their Own Thing...

That seems to be a mischaracterization of the article and the law

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb signed a new law that will require medical providers who treat women for complications arising from abortions to report detailed patient information to the state.

Yeah, it sounds like the law requires doctors to report certain information when complications from abortions arise. Still ridiculous, but much different from what Cathleen posted.

Re: The States: Doing Their Own Thing...

Well I should hope so! Not sure what the purpose of the law is though and doubt it passes any sort of scrutiny by the courts.

Re: The States: Doing Their Own Thing...

Romney the supposed "check" on the President thinks Trump is a ***** on immigration.

About a month after the 2012 presidential election, Mitt Romney’s campaign chief, Matt Rhoades, appeared at a forum and expressed “regret” for how far to the right the GOP candidate went on immigration. It was an understandable sentiment: Romney posturing on the issue helped contribute to his defeat.

Romney, however, appears to have no such regrets. The former Massachusetts governor, now running for the Senate in Utah, this week took aim at Dreamers, arguing that Donald Trump isn’t far enough to the right on immigration.

The comments came as the 2012 Republican presidential nominee turned 2018 Senate candidate defended his conservative credentials in front of a crowd of Republican voters in Utah worried he was too moderate to earn their votes.

“For instance, I’m a deficit hawk,” Romney said while taking questions at the town hall in Provo, according to the Daily Herald. “That makes me more conservative than a lot of Republicans and a lot of Democrats. I’m also more of a hawk on immigration than even the president. My view was these DACA kids shouldn’t all be allowed to stay in the country legally.”

Romney added, “Now I will accept the president’s view on this, but for me, I draw the line and say, those who’ve come illegally should not be given a special path to citizenship.”
