Re: The States: At Least Michigan is Better Than Indiana

Someone asked me if I’d consider dating a republican . I said I can’t handle brainless and soulless

Sounds like your ex ;)

I never was one to give to money liberal organizations but the current state of the Center and Right has got me giving money to lots of liberal causes. Just recently joined the ACLU and gave money to the Sierra Club. At this point we are the only ones that can fix this crap...

Right?? I couldn’t imagine dating a conservative now. What a waste of a good Canadian

If you had asked me a couple years ago, I’d have given a different answer than today. After really contemplating settling down with my GF, it’s become obvious that people need to have the same core values when it comes to politics, even if you don’t discuss politics that often. How on earth could you possibly raise a family with competing values?

Worse than that, I don’t think I could be with someone that didn’t support basic human rights for people who are different than me or her. Nor could I date someone who didn’t care about the poor and less fortunate.

You said it much more succinctly.

I've been donating monthly to both of those orgs since November 9th, 2016.

Six years ago when I met my ex, I knew he was an R and I didn’t care. We had some big fights about health care.
Now I don’t even want friends who are republican.

Right now if you're a Republican you may personally not be a racist or a sexist but you're saying it's not a deal breaker. They can all eat a bag o' dicks. Until they get their heads out of their rectums they should be given as wide a berth as possible.

Just because basic human rights don't matter to them does not mean it's dickish to say, "Know what? They do matter to me."

These are no longer political differences. They are way bigger. People who think that being concerned about putting kids in cages and murdering them is "virtue signalling" have left the table of civilized discourse.

Re: The States: At Least Michigan is Better Than Indiana

Florida isn't the only state that's done this. It's kind of an interesting issue. It dates all the way back to 1990 when the Department of Education urged states to pass these laws. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/18/business/student-loans-licenses.html?_r=0

A number of states passed laws, of varying breadth. Since then, some states who have had them on their books have decided that they really don't work and are starting to repeal them. I tend to agree they are likely ineffective and probably cause more harm than they cure. https://www.ncsl.org/research/labor...e-suspension-for-student-loan-defaulters.aspx

Pretty much this.

Gotta love the debt trap.

Re: The States: At Least Michigan is Better Than Indiana

I guess in the long term relationships I've had, politics itself was never an issue. While I leaned more conservative overall, the women in my life leaned more liberal overall. However, we each respected the others' views, because we could discuss them in a civil manner, without coming down on the other's views. When elections came up, we more often than not cancelled each other's votes out, and that was fine.

It's a good discussion point to bring up, that's for sure.

Ooh! So brave, Susan. How long til she back tracks and grandstands for an hour yammering about it?

“BREAKING: Sen. Susan Collins has become the first Republican senator to announce her opposition to President Trump's controversial nominee for the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, Chad Readler, ahead of a vote this week.”
