Ever seen a proposal so stupid it unites lefties and Americans for Prosperity against it? That’s what is happening in Anchorage!

Our (Democratic) Mayor and Assembly have a revenue problem, natural thing to happen with oil revenue cratering and a property tax cap, so they’re proposing a 3% sales tax. The new tax part is what is rankling AFP, the part rankling lefties? Part of the proposal is using sales tax revenue to provide property tax relief, specifically a good chunk to large property owners like say the owner of a majority of rental units.

Needless to say, there’s plenty of opposition.
 
I watched a video on the most crime ridden cities in the country and both Anchorage and Sitka (?) made it. WTF? It's too cold for crimes.

Massive homelessness problem in Anchorage. We’re the dumping ground for the rest of the state and the rest of the state refuses to provide any funding or assistance to address it.

Every one of the most violent cities per capita was in a red state except for one NM town that's on the res.

Poverty minus social services minus education = crime. cf. Robert K. Merton, 1930s.

The criminal is doing exactly what any rational actor would do under the same conditions. Then add the pressure of addiction to turn everything up to 11.

We could not have ensured this result more certainly if we had planned it.

And that's just the DNC messaging in the primaries.
