The Road to Omaha - Last Hurrah at The Blatt

Re: The Road to Omaha - Last Hurrah at The Blatt

I'm mildly surprised that UCLA is in only its 3rd CWS, but with USC, Fullerton, the Arizona schools, and Stanfurd, its probably tough competition for recruits even with the hoards SoCal puts out.

Re: The Road to Omaha - Last Hurrah at The Blatt

UCLA was always a bad baseball school even though some talent came out of the school (see Chase Utley, Troy Glaus) they didn't have any good teams.

It took until USC's empire crumbled in Southern California that UCLA was able to get a chunk of the power in the region.

Re: The Road to Omaha - Last Hurrah at The Blatt

Looks like barring a miracle overall one seed ASU is going to get knocked out of the CWS without a win.

Re: The Road to Omaha - Last Hurrah at The Blatt

Yah, this is just brutal by ASU. And the thing is, it's the star players that are doing nothing. The role players are making what noise is being made. For a team whose season was built on consistency, this is a very bad time to have their worst two game stretch. It isn't over yet, but before today, ASU hadn't lost two in a row all season.

Re: The Road to Omaha - Last Hurrah at The Blatt

Hard to believe Arizona State is losing. ASU simply doesn't look like the #1 seed.

Re: The Road to Omaha - Last Hurrah at The Blatt

Heh. FSU's closer going into the last super regional game had like a .64 ERA. Gave up 3 to Vandy, then 3 to Florida, and blows the game today as TCU scored 8 in the 8th to win 11-7. Hopefully TCU goes on and wins the whole thing.

Re: The Road to Omaha - Last Hurrah at The Blatt

I had turned that game off, seeking something more interesting (ended up flipping between the Twins and Cubs games), and when I flipped back, I saw TCU celebrating... Amazing comeback.

Re: The Road to Omaha - Last Hurrah at The Blatt

Well, OU just blew the game in the 12th. The other USC :D faces Clemson.

Think I'll cheer for a TCU and UCLA. Hope they're not in the same half of the bracket.

Re: The Road to Omaha - Last Hurrah at The Blatt

And UCLA took it back to advance to the final against Clemson or South Carolina.

Re: The Road to Omaha - Last Hurrah at The Blatt

The BCS has turned me into a conference homer in basically everything, so its UCLA all the way for me. It would be nice to add to the conference's haul at Rosenblatt.

Re: The Road to Omaha - Last Hurrah at The Blatt

Back in 1985, South Carolina came up to Maine to play a 3 game series at Mahaney, which was nice for such a big name school to come play Maine at home, and I went up for the weekend to see the games.

The poor SC catcher was having just a terrible weekend of it, catching a few foul balls off parts of his anatomy, passed balls, no luck at the plate, and the Maine fans were really feeling pretty badly for him. If my memory isn't playing tricks on me, and I just want this to be so, I recall that he finally got a good base hit late in the series, and the Maine fans gave him a pretty good hand for it.

A Pac-10 team dropping baseball just seems odd. I mean, given attendance here in the north, if the Big Ten had a couple teams join Wisconsin in dropping baseball or the MAC dropped to an 8 team conference, I wouldn't bat an eyelash. No one cares. Even Michigan in Kalamazoo vs. Western attracts 500 or less in attendance.
