Re: The Power of the SCOTUS VIII - I am certiorari we'll be arguing until Thanksgivin

As usual, confused. I google stuff, I just don't sit through other folks youtubes unless I have a very good reason, which I don't.

Oh no! He refuses to watch a 13-second clip of a movie explaining the reference another poster made for the enjoyment of others! All of our lives are now a waste.

yes, I'm clairvoyant and can know how long a video is without clicking on it. Or is that confusing also?

The neat thing about YouTube is that you can click on the link, see the length of the video, and then decide if it's worth your time or not. YouTube's feelings won't be hurt.

You just don't understand how difficult it is to be Bob. He's got things to do! Places to be! Crosses to climb!

Again, I don't click on youtube links people post without good reason. This really shouldn't be that hard to understand.

Yay. The trolls come rolling out in force to moan about me not watching a youtube video. Just another day on USCHO.

Worried about misuse of department bandwidth? Concerned about viruses repleat and widely known to exist on YouTube links? Unless you're concerned about the content itself, which people have been careful to place the NSFW lable on those iffy clips, I actually don't understand. Unless you're taking a moral stand against the use of external links, then to each his own.

Nothing to obsess about. I just choose not to spend my time watching videos very much. Kinda like I don't watch most videos folks I know post on Facebook. I know people like you try to read way too much into every word I post, but there's really not some crazy dark agenda in my not watching every video someone posts. If that's not clear, I can't help you any further.

And yet you choose to spend your time bickering with people here about it? If your time is really that precious, why are you engaging with people about this?

Re: The Power of the SCOTUS VIII - I am certiorari we'll be arguing until Thanksgivin

You guys are being dixx to Bob on this one.

Lynah posts a decent explanation as to why yet another appeal is made by Davis, and then adds the clever reference to a scene from A Few Good Men. Kep, apparently with nothing better to do at that instant, decides to link to the actual movie clip, but throw in an insult of Bob while he does so.

Bob responds by accusing Kep of being confused, as usual, pointing out that he does actually Google, he just doesn't click on every random YouTube link you guys post, and that now requires everyone to throw out their own insults? Seriously?

I don't agree with some of what Bob posts, but I'll give him props for putting up with the clown show most of these political/religion threads turn into.

He's every bit a part of the clown show as anyone, if not more. He just happens to play "victim clown".

That's fine, although the "Bob up on his cross" or "Bob as a victim" meme is thrown around so often on here it isn't even clever anymore.

But here's my point. Bob didn't do anything to provoke either Kep's initial insult or the piling on that occurred after he responded to Kep. Everyone just used the fact that he posted as opportunity to trot out the same old tripe.

meh, nevermind...not worth it.

Whoa now, son, don't mix me in with your point. Bob has said he doesn't follow links. I liked the AFGM quote (which I had to look up because I didn't even remember it. and so assumed others wouldn't) and was saying this one's actually worth clicking on. That was in no way slagging Bob -- in fact I share your irritation at the constant deployment of the Bob on a cross meme.

Re: The Power of the SCOTUS VIII - I am certiorari we'll be arguing until Thanksgivin

We leave that to the Godless ones, like Stalin, Mao, etc. :p

If we tally up all the God killins and Godless killins it's a draw. Because, big surprise, killers are killers -- they just make up reasons afterwards.

If you think believing or not believing in God makes a speck of difference in morality I've got some lovely land in Florida to sell you.

Re: The Power of the SCOTUS VIII - I am certiorari we'll be arguing until Thanksgivin

Sometimes I struggle with the distinction between irony and hypocrisy.

Irony is when Dick Cheney defends not going to Baghdad in 1991 because that would destabilize the region and create 20 years of chaos, then does exactly that in 2004 with his own predicted result.

Hypocrisy is when he lies about it later.

Well, if you want to talk about tallying, I think you'd be hard pressed numerically to match the sum total from Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot and the like. Numerically things like The Inquisition and the Crusades, while certainly resulting in the killing of many innocent folks, are only a tiny fraction of the previously mentioned tally. That would be true even if you threw in Hitler on the Christian side, which any thinking person would not do (though someone around here tries to argue so every so often). Killers don't just make up reasons afterwards. Stalin didn't just happen to starve the Ukrainians in the 1930s and afterwards come up with a reason. For mass killers like Stalin and Mao, there was certainly reasoning in what they did, even if tragically flawed.

Just saying, the numbers are what they are.
