Let's be honest, the group that reads this isn't the typical American...there are things we all should know that this group does, while a large part of the general population doesn't.

Chick's a governor.

I watched a video making its way around facebook asking high school grads 3rd grade history questions and most didn't know the answers...pretty simple political stuff.
She's the governor, she's part of the branch that she left out, she's not just some smuck off the street.

Re: The Power of the SCOTUS Part VII - The Bedrock of the Republic!

Yes, there is obviously no excuse for a governor to leave out their own branch of government, but lets be honest, she's elected by the people I'm talking about...
People do make mistakes. Some get the 3 branches wrong, some get the number of states wrong, some mispronounce other leaders' names. It happens.

Our elected officials - God Bless 'Em!

This looks promising.

Yesterday, the U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington ruled 11-0 that a ban on federal campaign contributions by individuals who contract with the government is constitutional.

Meh. Will get struck down mercilessly by the SC.

Well, which Court? Challenges starting the long and winding road now may be heard by a Court with a different makeup. It may be SCOTUS-as-an-arm-of-corporate-America is a passing fad, and all of these decisions that Roberts has been meticulously crafting to protect the donor class will be overturned.

The claim that spending is protected political speech is on the face of it one of those obscenities so egregious that the Court may formally repudiate it. McCutcheon may well be regarded as another Dred Scott, Plessy, or Lochner someday.

If appealed, it'd almost certainly have to be decided next term. The petition for cert would likely be done this summer with the decision to grant/deny coming at the long conference to start the next term. I don't know the timeframes for sure, but even if it's longer than that, so long as cert is granted by December it'd still make it into next term's argument calendar.

Interesting article on how the Supreme Court is being viewed more and more as a partisan body and how views swing with major decisions that go one way or another. No real surprise, but just puts some meat on what was already a known trend of most everything in this country being viewed as more partisan, including the Court. Unfortunate, but not surprising.

That's why the debate should be about the language of the decision itself and prior precedent, not the result. That's expecting a lot, of course--most people have not read single decision in its entirely, much less the body of decisions that are cited within it. It makes a difference, but the mainstream press and, even more, partisan bloggers, will never go there because they will be ignored. It is so much easier to make simplistic declarations if you haven't done the work.

Who wasn't viewing the SC as a partisan body after December 2000?

When a decision goes against knuckle dragger mentality it's because of vigilante justice.
