Re: The Power of the SCOTUS III: Roberts' Rules of Order

Correct me if I'm wrong but an amendment to the Constitution cannot be Unconstitutional.
I told you, I'm in a joking mood. :p Besides, do you REALLY think that mere fact would dissuade him? :p

Great idea on Twitter just now: A list of countries Republicans can move to that don't have a health care mandate... We can cross off any industrialized nation... Madagascar? Iran? Zimbabwe?

ETA: Jesus, even Rwanda has national health care. This might be harder than I thought...

Edit 2: They sure won't want to go to Kuwait
Kuwait's level of health care is comparable to average European standards, according to the WHO's profile of the Middle Eastern country.

The country began building up its health care system as it gained wealth from oil revenues. By the 1950s, the government implemented free comprehensive health care. This resulted in declines in general mortality and infant deaths, the report said. "Free health care was so extensive that it even included veterinary medicine," according to a local WHO report.

No, it's TEH SOCIALISM!!! Jack-booted thugs are going to show up at your door and seize all your guns, then the IRS agents will come get the rest of your stuff! The Kenyan won't be happy until we're all living in huts and caves.

dang. sounds like I've got to stock up on more ammo. again. Hopefully the lines at the WalMart won't be as long as lost time, when they ran out of the 180 grain remington and I had to get crappy federals which are still stacked under the baby's crib going to waste.

Re: The Power of the SCOTUS III: Roberts' Rules of Order

Tell that to California.

Well, wasn't that an amendment to the California Constitution which was then stricken by the US Constitution? The US one is the law of the land. You can't pass laws in your state or amendments to your Constitution that aren't in line with the US Constitution. If you could Mississippi would be even more entertaining than it is now.

I've got my fingers crossed for the Bahamas. ;)

You should just re-load equipment, much cheaper and you're not as dependant on the stores. Also, I have several firearms that are unregistered, which is a good idea.

Hey, when it comes to healthcare, we can all afford to pay more. Some of us will pay in cash, while others will pay in time. Waiting lines will get longer and longer for many many people, while concierge doctors will become more widespread. Some people will just pay the penalty and bypass insurance altogether, banding together to put personal physicians directly on their payrolls; others will start up private hospitals only for themselves and family.

Doctors nearing retirement will retire sooner rather than consent to all the additional paperwork, exacerbating an already difficult situation.

Barry One-Note is so insular in his thinking, the idea of "unintended consequences" never ever seems to occur to him...him being so much smarter than anyone else, and all.

Just because it's legal doesn't mean any of it will actually work.

I never had you pegged as a "barter for healthcare with a chicken" conservative Fishy!

Fortunately for you I can put your mind at ease. A health care mandate has already been implemented in a relatively large state and all of the predictions of anarchy and cannnibalism never came to pass. In fact, the joker now running for Prez on a "Repeal and....I'll get back to you later" platform was its biggest advocate!

all joking aside, I'm 100% with you on this. My rifles are purchased through the classifieds with absolutely no paper trail. Although I probably shouldn't put that on the internet where the jack-booted, unionized, federal thugs are sure to see it.

edit: wait, are they thugs or goons? I'm mixing up the federales with the Wisconsin ones.

There's another theory floating around that the dissent was originally written first as the majority opinion, but they couldn't get Roberts to sign on due to the tax issue. The dissent was written around the subject of the Commerce Clause and didn't delve into the issue that carried the day. Whether or not the Libs agreed with it, I think they saw an avenue for a favorable ruling and went with it IMHO.

Regarding Roberts commenting on this not being an endorsement of the law, as a lefty I'm not offended by that. I thought over such a contentious issue he's entitled to remind people the SCOTUS role is merely to decide whether or not the law is constitutional.

If you want a good laugh go out to The National Review website and read the spin. Pretty amusing.

Apparently Lawrence Tribe, who taught con law to both Obama and Roberts, called it--that the Supremes would uphold the mandate and that Roberts would author the decision.

Why its it always Canada? There are enough problems back home without importing more loons from both sides. Go to France or Greece fe crissakes!

France is even worse.

At this point, you're stuck with... probably some random West African nation.

Wait, when did this become a message board for tin-foil-hat nutjobs?

Sorry. No.

The Government of Bahamas provides the majority funding on healthcare. The Ministry of Health (MOH) is responsible for the development of health policies, planning, regulations, monitoring and evaluation, public health services and financing. The health sector is comprised of four areas of services namely the Ministry of Health, Department of public health, public hospitals authority and the private sector.

While the MOH has oversight for the provision of healthcare, it does so with the involvement of the private health sector except for Grand Bahamas, where the department of public health is responsible for the delivery of primary preventative healthcare, delivered throughout the Bahamas at the various Government owned clinics and health centres.

Dewey Beats Truman!
Sorry. No.
Mexico? Columbia? India?

I have mixed feelings on the ruling. I love how it will get people the health care they need and have been denied. I am not sure how the law will all work out.

As for the CNN/Faux News errors...that is why you follow the SCOTUSBlog. They did a great job breaking it down. I was watching MSNBC when it broke and they made sure they got it right.

Re: The Power of the SCOTUS III: Roberts' Rules of Order

Interesting insights from Krauthammer. I guess the pressure Obama and the Dems put on Roberts over the past months paid off, convincing him that for the sake of the Supreme Court's legacy (at least with liberals), he just couldn't overturn in no matter how much he had problems with it. Unfortunate that a Chief Justice has to skate around the issue the way he did, but such is the state of how things are done in our nation. You'd never see a liberal chief justice do such a thing.
