Re: The Power of SCOTUS VIII redux: IX is being blocked by the Senate.

who is this "we" of whom you speak? You aren't really naïve enough to think that they care about anyone other than themselves, are you?

Poor lad. Just because your party is formally devoted to the proposition "I'm alright Jack keep your hands offa my stack" you assume everyone must be motivated that way.

Republicans are like sociopaths: lacking empathy they assume everyone who displays empathy is either faking it or is a sap. They have no idea that they're the damaged ones.

Re: The Power of SCOTUS VIII redux: IX is being blocked by the Senate.

Also deals cut with the older liberals (e.g. Ginsburg; sometimes she looks to me like she's being handled like the guy in "Weekend at Bernies").

There's a sweet spot of around 53 or 54 where the true Senate liberals (Warren, Brown, Sanders, Franken, Baldwin, I dunno Markey maybe?) get a ton of leverage. Unfortunately it drops to zero +/- 3. :p

Assuming the Good Guys win, the Better Guys might get a sniff of justice once in a while. We won't be high on the agenda, but when we're needed for a really tight vote we might be able to wring some good out of the system. And that's the way the sausage gets made...

Re: The Power of SCOTUS VIII redux: IX is being blocked by the Senate.

Agree completely about getting done what you can especially court wise in the next two years. 2018 will be tough but if we can maximize 2016 its possible to hang on. Without looking I think ID, ND, WV, MO and MT are up for Dems and NV and ME up for the GOP (assuming Collins retires/runs for Gov). Unfortunately we need to hope like hell Manchin answers the bell one more time as he's already won in a tough climate twice already. Or Tester can hang in there once again. This makes it imperative to get up to at least 53 seats this year. With Trump at the top of the ticket its not going to get much better than this.

PS - Don't fret polling too much Kep. If Dem Senate candidates are running close to even in states that Hillary is going to win, they most likely pull out those races. Cross over votes, especially in the age of Trump, are going to be non-existent.

I agree with your last statement -- that should take care of it. I do have some completely anecdotal evidence from my work that fundy voters who are peeling off Trump intend to still vote straight ticket R downballot, but either leave prez blank or write in, I dunno, Jesus* maybe?

* Somebody should start a regular presidential election movement that if Jesus ever wins as a write-in the Eschaton shall occur, and those who don't vote for Jesus will go to the fiery furnace. There are just enough of the truly mentally deficient (10% maybe) who would do it.

Because Senate terms are 6 years Senators almost always (unless there are special elections) alternate between midterm and prez electorates. Maybe that will turn out to be healthy -- a sort of built-in term limit. Or maybe it will drag the same Senators to the center for the prez and then the right for the midterms. If the latter we can fix that too -- just make sure that prez waves are as far left as midterms are right.

Or maybe vote in the frigging midterms, fellow liberals!

Re: The Power of SCOTUS VIII redux: IX is being blocked by the Senate.

your party.

What is this "your party" of which you speak? you sure assume lots of untrue things.... apparently you are of that primitive mindset that the enemy of my enemy must be my friend, but that is foolishness. the enemy of my enemy is an unknown quantity.

I am not represented by any political party at all. I used to be what had been called a "blue dog Democrat" but they are now extinct. When they purged Joe Lieberman from the party in 2006, that was the last person who might have been close.

Both parties have moved to such extremes that there are quite a few of us who are now adrift.

I am really concerned about the totalitarian drift of the Democrats. You seem to think that totalitarianism will suit you just fine because your "we" will be in charge. Hah. Keep dreaming, I guess self-deception is more far prevalent among the intelligent than among regular folks; you have something to be vain about and so can be flattered and manipulated and actually enjoy it because it strokes your ego in ways you think you deserve.

oh, well, so it goes. Where is Montana Wildhack when you really need her?

Fishy once Hillary is inaugurated I hope you plan on coming quietly to that re-education camp we'll have set up for people like you. Don't make us come and get you. :D

I think you guys are underestimating the stink tD has and how long it will last. he is not the normal candidate...in two years Reps and Senators will still be able to use him as an anchor against anyone who ever endorsed him.

Is it at Wal-Mart...cause Frauddy already warned us about those :D

Agree with this. Trump is horrific for the GOP, and I couldn't be happier for them! :D The lasting impact of him is that he's overwhelmingly popular amongst Republican voters themselves. So, next time around these people aren't going to turn to John Kasich to lead them. They'll be turning to Michelle Bachman and Sarah Palin.

I think you're right about the stink sticking around, but not in the way you mentioned. It's normalized the alt-right and a lot of their sister factions. They have been given a seat at the table. We'll be spending the next 10 years cleaning up this filth.

Psst. It's OK. Our guy in DHS has his address, just like Flag.

Or have I said too much?

Not only that, but he may not go away on 11/9. It may just be the start. Trump TV vs Fox News. Two propagandists enter. No one leaves because they are evenly matched and will lock horns for all eternity. There will be no Kirk to save the right.

when they come for you (and you know they will, they always do!), there won't be anyone left for you to turn to for help, you'll have been too busy laughing as your erstwhile allies were taken away first....

On a more serious vein, exactly what is it about totalitarianism that appeals to you so much that you are always speaking out in favor of it?

Do you also believe that "they" are somehow "we" as far as you are concerned?

The whole idea we once had a Constitution to begin with was that anyone with too much power becomes a danger to others no matter who they are.

History seems to validate that idea. We'll see how funny you find the situation in 20 years, eh?

Its more like "divine monarchy" with myself as the regent. :D Assume the authority without the responsibility. ;)

Also while Montana Wildhack was pretty good looking back in the day, isn't Valerie Perrine like 75 years old now? But that's cool if you're still into her.

Psst. It's OK. Our guy in DHS has his address, just like Flag.

Nah, 'bout time we circulate the plan. Those FEMA camps don't just build themselves so lets get started (unless we just use Wal-Mart's like Handy suggested).

McCain and the Republicans are now threatening to block ANYONE Hillary puts up for SCOTUS. So much for letting the people decide...

McCain is trying to help Toomey by blowing the SCOTUS/"librul judges!!11!" whistle to Pennsyltuckians. He's not stupid - he knows they're fcked if the Democrats regain the Senate majority. They won't be able to justify a filibuster of Hill's nominees with a majority if the public if they are not at least 50/50.
