Re: The Power of SCOTUS VIII redux: IX is being blocked by the Senate.

Good call on this. The GOP should vote for Garland. Hillary's got it in the bag. But they never, ever will, because they are acting in their own personal best interest and not that of their ideology or party.

Who cares? He's about to get his a ss kicked by 10M votes. How does he claim that's all fraudulent? SPECTRE at their zenith couldn't pull of something like that.

Trump continues to set up plan 'I fail'. Although he may be really trying to do everything to win...it also seems like each of his moves seem like the right one if he is to lose. Machines are supposedly rigged? Preparing to lose. It doesn't matter if he loses? Preparing to lose. Hiring inflamatory right wing mouth piece? Potentially preparing to lose and blame said mouthpiece.

Trump is either a total incompetent trying to win...or an absolute genius preparing to lose.

The theory I heard that makes the most sense is that he's setting up his own right wing TV network and media empire. Think about it - the guy already knows TV and publicity. His connections to people like David Duke and the Truthers would allow him to put people on the air that even Fox won't touch. Besides, I think Roger Ailes is looking for job. ;)

Al Gore sold a cable channel that nobody watched for like 400M bucks. Imagine what Trump could do post election?

As highly entertaining as it would be to watch him "Outfox" FNC, I don't want that crap poisoning our airwaves.

Like most immature attention seekers, Trump is an excuse machine. He's also like every idiot bully you've ever known who was too weak or stupid not to double down on his boorish behavior. If he or anyone like him becomes president in my lifetime, I will think about moving to Canada not to escape him but to escape the millions of people who could have done something about it but didn't.

Agree 100%. If she gets elected and that seat is empty by the GOP's own words she has a mandate to pick whomever she wants and if qualified they are obligated to confirm him or her.

If they hold the Senate it doesn't matter that their own words obligate them -- they will oppose any decently liberal choice (say, Kagan or farther left). If they don't hold the Senate they can delay until Chucky drops the hammer. Honestly if we got a 52-48 or so in the Senate that might just be the best way to do it: right off the bat, in a case in which the GOP has no leg to stand on, just pull the plug and go to a straight majority vote for cloture, always. I am willing to take it on the other end when the GOP finally gets their act back together in order to finally get Congress to be functional again.

O-Ba-Ma!

No, I don't think she would nominate him, and I doubt even more that he would accept the nomination.

But it would be one of the most epic trolls in the history of American politics and so much fun to watch the GOP go absolutely bananas.

If Roberts stepped down to spend more time arranging PPACA with his family, Hillary could nominate Obama as CJ and he'd accept. But he's not going to play step-n-fetchit for Alito and I don't blame him.

Which makes October real interesting. Itch has backed himself into a corner, but the man has no principles so if it still looks like Trump is going south he can schedule some hearings before the election, and then hold a vote afterwards. I still don't see how this would work logistically but that would make it slightly more likely he gets approved.

Dr. Mrs.' opinion, FWIW (she was a hill staffer after all) is they don't have enough time. The ones in election fights have every second scheduled glad handing and fundraising right up until election day, and every second of the lame duck is already on the docket for approps. They ran themselves out of time with all the email / Benghazi nonsense when they thought they could assassinate her. They gambled and lost big.

Re: The Power of SCOTUS VIII redux: IX is being blocked by the Senate.

What are the odds Trump will try to rig some votes in favor of Hillary (I have no idea the legitimacy of such an endeavor were one to try) to frame her for fraud? Given what we've seen from him so far is it that crazy of an idea?

We already know Trump is going to claim the election was rigged, and we already know a significant portion of the Echo Chamber (Breitbart, which is after all the Trump campaign now, and whoever they recruit for Trump TV*) will follow along. Just as 30% or so of the country literally believes Obama was never legally elected, that same 30% (or whatever's left of them as they die off) will believe Hillary was never legally elected.

* I love the theory that this whole campaign is just a launch for Trump TV, a Breitbart-driven RWNJ talking point factory even dumber and crazier than FNC. Now that Ailes has leaped on board the Crazy Train, it sure looks like The Whole Point is, and always was, a cash grab.

Step 1: Attract the sillier portion of the Fox audience with even more hair-brained RW lunacy and conspiracies.
Step 3: PROFIT!!!

It should be easy to monetize this crop, carefully grown over the last 25 years by Hate Radio and Fox to buy their books and their gold stocks and their prepper supplies. Just lift 50% of them, add the 50% who were already on the outside lapping up InfoWars or PrisonPlanet, and run a 24/7 insanity shop that is all criticism in all directions all the time. You are never hampered by having to spin your side's mistakes or water carry your side's message, because you have no side. You're against everyone, all day, every day, screaming blood-curdling headlines and forwarding every crazy thing your racist uncle reads on the interwebs.

We have finally reached Peak Conservatism.

I happen to agree. If Itch ran a tighter ship he could get this done but he's a figurehead leader, and an ugly one at that. They'd have to hold a week of hearings to go through the motions, then move to a vote with no filibusters. That's not going to happen either way. I doubt McConnell can find 14 Senators to vote for cloture. I can see the usual suspects (Kirk-Murkowski-Collins) doing so but that's it.

Another consequence of the GOP Congress' tantrum. If Hillary gets a Dem Senate she also gets 91 non-SCOTUS vacancies dating from as far back as 2011 to fill on January 20 if she wants.

Nah, the CF makes its money from foreign bribes. Get your talking points straight. :p
But they'll need a funding source during the eight year self-imposed moratorium.

It was a gamble...and it worked for a while but the rubberband effect is going to be HUUUGE! To continue Scooby's analogy...the GOP went on Atkins and come November they are about to start eating pizza again! They wont just rebound they will end up much worse :)
