The Power of SCOTUS V: The Final Frontier

What does nice have to do with it? A church would be just as egregiously in violation of the conditions that come along with the privilege of tax-exemption whether they're virulently disparaging a particular politician or whether they're effusively praising the virtues of a particular politician.

Rev. Wright?

Re: The Power of SCOTUS V: The Final Frontier

The Houston case was just an intentional shot across the bow by the attorney for the City, which I think the Mayor or other City officials have acknowledged may have gone to far.

You have a bunch of people trying to change or affect what the City was doing so the City attorney, knowing full well the effect of demanding copies of all sermons, came out throwing grenades.

It's a legitimate litigation tactic, but it backfired somewhat. The other side, including the pastors, had a right to make a big political deal of it, which they did.

The idea that religious or free speech rights are being trampled, though, I don't buy.

I would love to live in a world where every single thing wasn't forced into a political narrative, though. The Wahmbulance never sleeps.

Re: The Power of SCOTUS V: The Final Frontier

This is BS. You accused me of intentionally ducking. I'm not. Don't walk it back, own it, that's exactly what you were implying.

Thing is, I like engaging with you because you don't play those games and you don't just hurl feces against the wall like many of our esteemed righties. You're a good poster; cut the crap.
I'm not ducking anything. I've been pretty clear in my responses to you that I think you're avoiding commenting on this issue because it doesn't play well for your side of things, and you are rarely shy about commenting on whatever issues come along. Maybe I need to be a little more direct, as I was trying to give you and out and come out and say you don't support the garbage the city of Houston was trying to do. But, alas, you seem ok with Houston from your lack of saying anything about the situation. You're the one that's dancing around like there's no tomorrow.

True - and seatbelt usage. But can the government use the power of the purse to limit a constitutional right?

Sure, as long as it's done in a content neutral and non discriminatory way. How do you think PAC regulations work?

It really sucks to see you playing this game; it's like Fishy has remote desktop to your login. It only flies in the Echo Chamber because they cut the mics when they're called on it. There's no cutting the mics here, so I think you are failing, but I guess we should ask our loyal viewership.

On Houston: I have no opinion yet. I don't know enough. For you to say that means I support them is risible.

Your bob and weave and rope a dope would make Ali proud.

You throw articles up all day long on all sorts of issues and make comments, and I'm sure you haven't researched many of those in any depth, as there's not enough hours in the day. Yet, this one, you have no opinion on yet and don't know enough. In the time you've taken to keep saying you don't know enough, you could have read a good number of articles and learned a good deal about the situation. It's not like it's that hard to get the general layout of what is going on there.

Why would I? Why is your agenda important to me?

This is like a primer on trolling. Keep going, please.

In the meantime, I recommend this. It's a fascinating read and of course utterly unrelated.

I get it. You're not going to say a word on the issue and you keep trying to steer away from it. Fine. I thought your perspectives on the subject would be interesting, given that you're quite liberal, but generally fairly reasonable in my book. My mistake. I won't ask you again.

Leave Bob alone, not like he needs outside reasons to hop on his cross and get comfy.

Ah, the anonymous negative rep comment. If you take the time to say something negative to me, have the guts to sign it. Not to mention that the comment doesn't even make a lot of sense.

How about not being a free rider and getting the USCHO membership? Then you can see who reps you. I assumed you were actually paying your freight.

I sent it to you and it read as follows:

"I defend you and then you attack me. Stay classy."

It makes perfect sense. A few days ago I did my best to stem a tide of (I thought) unjustified equating of you and Pio as unreasoning martyr drag queens. Then you slipped off your meds and started attacking me in a Freep 101 exhibition of "if you don't act like I'm telling you to act I'm a gonna hold my breath!"

I don't regret defending you, but I have no idea why you decided to turn into a self-parody of Paranoid Righty Tighty just at that moment. The timing was interesting, I'll give you that.

Now you're complaining that I don't pay to comment occasionally on an internet message board? And I'm the one who is off meds?

You really are going nuts about me noting that you avoid the Houston situation like the plague, when you comment on all sorts of other things. Really though, you are just like most lefties who avoided the issue. Kudos to burd for commenting on it. I figured you'd be a voice of reason, but your silence does raise questions in my mind as to whether you're fine with Houston's heavy handed behavior that they are backpedaling on now.
