The Power of SCOTUS V: The Final Frontier

Re: The Power of SCOTUS V: The Final Frontier

I have to disagree. Sort of. WHile it's impossible to completely divorce oneself from deeply held political beliefs, I still think it's possible to come to a conclusion that is derived almost entirely from fact, science, and the Constitution. I'd like to think I'm capable of this since I seem to **** off quite a few of the posters on here regularly. Some from opposing political affiliations on the same post. It's like getting two ducks in one shot on Duck Hunt. :D
Sure, it's possible to reach a such conclusions. But it's difficult to in the rarified air of a place like the Supreme Court, where decisions have enormous ramifications, and where issues before the court are so politicized. Plus, I don't think, particularly in the Dems' case, they'd have any interest in nominating someone who doesn't toe the line on their litmus test issues.

If you think the Republicans are any different I have a bridge to sell you in Fort Lee.

If the Reps try to apply a litmus test, there's always huge wailing in the media and all about how unfair that is. When the Dems apply a litmus test, there's barely a mention. One of those areas where the Reps are a bit soft and they've paid the price for letting the Dems run the issue to a large extent.

Wow. Attacking the media and the judiciary in less than 12 parsecs (there's another obscure cultural reference for you). That's top notch, Bob, even by your standards.

Too bad you left out some comment about the gay agenda or you could have had the Rush Limbaugh hat trick in a single post.

This reminds me of liberals sitting around in the mid 80's complaining that they were always at a disadvantage because they told unpalatable truths while Reagan was willing to just lie for votes, and the pliable media would just blithely report both sides' narratives without pointing out the false equivalence.

Everybody feels this way about his side, Bob. Everybody feels the refs are against them. I remember a great conversation with two friends, one fairly liberal and one fairly conservative, where both at the same time blurted out that it was always hard for his side to win because while it was moderated by the facts the other side was motivated by emotion. To their credit, both guys paused, then laughed as they realized this is just the BS we tell ourselves to get through the day.

Exactly! In most substantive ways, both parties are aligned with power brokers and elites. Neither party really has any concern about "ordinary Americans."

Which makes me wonder why you are so fervent in your fealty to one when you yourself recognize there is so little to distinguish one from the other when you look at it from a big picture, holistic point of view.

Both parties are dominated by lobbyists and special interest groups who take turns passing around the spoils. What makes the totalitarian one so much more attractive?

To sum up: Both parties suck. Vote Republican.

Because the accumulation of wealth in the hands of a few at the expense of the many is a bug on the left, whereas on the right it's the whole mission.

Seriously? something this fatuous is the best you can come up with? I'm really disappointed. you present yourself as intelligent, but this is a really lame comment.

"let's promote equality by making everyone miserable!" wow, that is really inspirational.

I'm sure you know, though probably would prefer to deny, that the poor and disadvantaged always do better in times of economic growth than in times of stagnation. The disparities between rich and the rest have grown wider over the past six years at a much faster rate than they did in the previous eight, you know.

Congratulations. You've discovered my entire purpose for existing.
