The Potsdam Bears deserve their own thread....

Re: The Potsdam Bears deserve their own thread....

Plattsburgh didnt have 7 days rest. They played Middlebury on Tuesday.

While this is true, one cannot ignore the fact that Plattsburgh has faced Morrisville on the 2nd night for the past 2 seasons when it comes to the P'dam/Platty series for Morrisville.

Re: The Potsdam Bears deserve their own thread....

It was an interesting night at Maxcy Hall this evening. Potsdam scored 2 quick ones in the last 30 seconds of the first period and had a 5-2 lead going into the 2nd.
Fredonia used all 3 goalies during the 1st period, which I thought was crazy.
However Fredonia used a 5 min PP in the 2nd to draw even and carry the play for the rest of the period.
Potsdam finally got alot of bounces in the first period but there was no quit in this Fredonia team.
Heartbreaking loss for the Bears, this is truly one that slipped away. No excuses, nor any complaints about the officiating from me.
I don't know what else to post........:( :( :(

Re: The Potsdam Bears deserve their own thread....

Tough loss tonight against Plattsburgh 7-3. Plattsburgh seemed very organized during the 2nd period and I thought they dominated the period. Outscoring Potsdam 4-1 during that period.
Overall Plattsburgh took it to us and deserve credit for playing as well as they did.
The one thing I have to point out, I have lost alot of respect for the Plattsburgh fans after this evening.
The fan from Plattsburgh who decided to run up and down in front of the student sections after a Plattsburgh goal, literally displaying the "double bird" was beyond classless. Then after being confronted about it, he decided to throw a punch at a young woman.
I thought a riot was going to break out in the stands at Maxcy. It makes the program and fans at Plattsburgh look extremely bad.

You know what? Every team has a fan they are not proud of. But Why do you lose respect for Plattsburgh fan"S", when it was 1 fan that was at fault? Do you punish all your children if one does something wrong?

Re: The Potsdam Bears deserve their own thread....

Birdwatcher-
I sincerely appreciate you posting what you did. He certainly did not represent himself or Plattsburgh well.
However this individual was clearly displaying himself as a fan of Plattsburgh, so how can I see he is a renegade?
Maybe after the 2nd time, the Plattsburgh fans would have a chat with him about conduct in another arena?
No matter how Plattsburgh fans attempt to separate themselves from this individual, it does not justify his actions.........specifically throwing a punch at a female.
He clearly displayed himself as a Plattsburgh fan and was not discouraged until he showed his "toughness".

In my experience, I'm somewhat surprised it was only one plattsburgh fan...

I'm guessing you didn't see the other roughly 50-75 Plattsburgh fans who were doing nothing even remotely close to what that moron was doing. and personally, I told security to throw him out because we didn't need people like that there. now I will admit that he was "showing the birds" to the Potsdam fans while he was receiving them in return... not sure who initiated it, not that it really matters because it shouldn't have happened. and as for the "punch", I can't really speak to that because I didn't see it. Can I assume that you, as a Bears fan, were real pleased with the students in attendance throwing bottles at the Plattsburgh "fan"? I'm pretty sure you weren't, and I wouldn't group you with those "fans" throwing things as you seem to have more class than that. so please, don't just group all fans together as one just because one window licker made himself look like a complete *****.

Loudhorns..........

Chicken vs the Egg theory here...

My opinion is based on from what I saw and first hand accounts from not only students but staff at the game.

Actually Saints if you noticed after the second time someone did tell him to sit down, and during the intermission when he tried coming over to chat with us Loudhorns quickly told him to go sit down. That was sad....I wished someone would have poped the moron in the moth. You would have thought the ARC bus forgot to pick the guy up.

Fair enough......I think this person ruined a passionate crowd from Plattsburgh.

Re: The Potsdam Bears deserve their own thread....

For sure. It was, for the most part, a great crowd both ways....I feel bad that girl had to put up with him. He should have been escorted out....

yeah like I said, I don't know who did it first, but not like it matters cause it shouldn't have happened to begin with.

I sincerely hope your not making a reference to what I imagine...and I only imagine it because I work with several great kids diagnosed with autism among other disabilities for now. On snowy days I have to work with the adults as the kids do not come into school, and they take a bus called "ARC."

In other reference about this Plattsburgh fan doing whatever. I do not think one fan should be a model for the entire fan base. Every team has at least one fan that feels the need to try and get under the skin of opposing team's fans. Potsdam is no difference. I for one only strictly remember having much trouble with Geneseo fans on road games when a couple of drunk students decided they wanted to sit in the "visiting section" and curse the whole time...campus police promptly responded to Oswego fans' complaints.

And no...it was not beckyf

The Potsdam fans, they nearly brought me back to the mid-eighties, yes the seating is a small single sided arena (i.e. they couldn't be too spread out even if they wanted to be), but they were into the game. Very vocal, though I did hear some parents weren't too happy with the "bull*****" chants, it did seem to keep the fans in concert. The variety of Puck Plattsburgh and Plattsburgh Sucks shirts were nice to see, the proximity of the two schools, if nothing else, allows significant mutual visiting between the two arenas creating a "rivalry spirit" that is a major part of the sporting event experience. A great crowd and game :)

Re: The Potsdam Bears deserve their own thread....

Will it be Payback time?

The men’s hockey team (9-13-2/5-10-1 SUNYAC) is seeded fifth in the conference and will play fourth seeded Brockport (13-11-1/7-8-1 SUNYAC). The teams split two games this year with the Bears winning the first meeting in Potsdam 6-3 in their home opener and the Golden Eagles winning in Brockport 4-2 last month. This is second straight year that the teams will meet in the quarterfinals. Brockport won last year at home 3-1.

Re: The Potsdam Bears deserve their own thread....

A side note on this one, assistant coach Crowley played for Brockport last year.

I agree with your quote concerning the Potsdam fans but if the one bad Cardinal fan had tried what he did in the 1980's, my guess is he would have gone home in a body bag or at least "messed up". I give the Potsdam fans alot of credit for not intercepting this clown on his way back through the second time giving everyone double middle fingers and cussing them.
Its one thing to run down the front isle along the glass waving some prop supporting your team but what he did was way over the top. I don't think he was even thrown out just got a good talking to from someone from Suny Potsdam and the cops.

Re: The Potsdam Bears deserve their own thread....

Well, the season is over.....I am beyond words. This is not what I expected last fall. It is what it is.......
Good luck to all the other teams in the SUNYAC's. Hopefully I will see at least SUNYAC teams in Placid.
