Re: The Official "My team got screwed!" thread of the 2013 NCAA Hockey Tournament

People are right, this bracket is complete garbage! The Committee knows full well that Easter Sunday is the holiest day of the year in the Catholic Church, and yet they schedule BC for a game at 9 PM the night before. Why so late? Given that mass is at 8 AM you'd expect everyone to be asleep around that time.

And then to add insult to insult, they match us up against Union, who WON THEIR CONFERENCE TITLE! Look at who all the other two seeds got. Denver? They get UNH, who didn't even make the conference semifinals. North Dakota? They get Niagara. FOR REAL?! And then Miami gets St. Cloud State who, you guessed it, DIDN'T WIN THEIR CONFERENCE!

And if we do manage to get by the Union juggernaut, we have to play ON Easter, which will be extremely distracting.

It's amazing how badly the committee UTTERLY HOSED US this year. Hopefully BC finds the internal strength and determination to battle through it and make it to Pittsburgh anyway.

You can't be serious. This is meant to be a sarcastic post right?

Well of course Mr. Lowell fan doesn't have a problem with the brackets since the committee gave you a regional where you're the closest team to the rink of any of the four participants. UNH goes through all the trouble of logistics and planning for this event and now their home ice advantage is going to be destroyed by the hordes of Lowell fans who can practically walk to the Verizon Wireless Center from the UML campus. You guys really get all of the breaks, it must be nice.

Re: The Official "My team got screwed!" thread of the 2013 NCAA Hockey Tournament

He was joking. Anyway, just looking at old brackets

BC has gone west 3 times since 1992 (13 tourneys) and has a 4-1 record
Nodak has gone east 4 times since '92 (15 tourneys) and has a 3-2 record
Minnesota has gone east 3 times since '92 (15 tourneys) and has a 1-3 record
Although this is true, there should maybe be an asterisk next to it.

Prior to 2003, there were only two sites, one west and one east. You basically had a 50/50 shot, especially when the NCAA made a more concerted effort to mix in some teams from the west in the east regional, and vice versa. The match ups were also completely different. You might have a bye in the first round, which created interesting dynamics. You might face a more rested team, but one that still hadn't shaken it's tournament jitters.

But in the 11 seasons, starting in 2003, when there have been four separate regional sites (2 east and 2 west) with 4 seeded teams apiece, BC has been pretty protected from any westward travel. In fact, they made only one trip west and there is no question this is because they had to due to a quirk. Yale had a #1 seed, and the other eastern #1 seed was to play in Manchester against host UNH. To keep BC there would require them to go against the NCAA's no first round conference match up policy.

I'm sure some of this has had to do with BC coming into the tournament with high seeding ranks, and with Worcester hosting a sizable number of times.

Not that any of it matters. I don't see BC winning this year, whatever region they may be in. Personally, I'd rather have my team closer to home anyway, so I'm glad UND is in Michigan and not out in Providence or Manchester.

I still don't understand what a rabbit laying chocolate eggs has to do with the resurrection of Christ, but I'm not that religious.

I suppose all this BC beeching would be moot if the beecher's team's could beat the Eagles when it mattered.
Bottom line... you wanna get your arse whipped in a west regional, thereby saving travel expenses and a HUGE letdown at the FF?
OR
Get your arse whipped at the FF?, which obviously pizzes westerner's off to no end. :D

Nothing distances WCHA fans from the rest of the country than the belief that the regular season title is more important than the playoff title.

That and having to deal with tArrogance all year.
Eh, I'm starting to see a greater value in the regular season ( not that it helps BU any). I mean, it's interesting: look at the premier league. No playoffs.

Playoffs, and playoff tournaments, are a rather modern thing.

It's gloriously horrible.

I love this time of year around here.

As far as importance of titles, only an idiot would argue against the WCHA Final Five Championship as the pinnacle of college hockeydom.

That's obviously why our entrants in the ncaa friendlies are worn out and easy pickins.

Plus, after the gauntlet that is the Final Five, how do you get motivated for more exhibition games?

You guys sleep on Saturday night? I went to a Catholic school, and half the priests were alcoholics. It made me ready for attending the UW! My brother lives on Comm. Ave a few blocks from BC. He assures me that the students there will NOT be in bed (alone) on Holy Saturday.

Mostly agree. Not sure i follow The 50/50 thing since the 2 regionals were bigger than now; but I recall getting sent west was worse then than now since the sites are smaller and the seeds are fairly predetermined.

Ultimately BC's protection has little to do with worcester and more to do with there being consistently too many high seeds out west, thus some being forced east; vs consistently few eastern options as high seeds thus keeping those few home. The point of my stats was to show that while yeah more wcha teams come east than hockey east teams going west, on a per team basis it sort of averages out

Re: The Official "My team got screwed!" thread of the 2013 NCAA Hockey Tournament

Excuse me if this is covered elsewhere ....

Quinnipiac is the #1 overall seed. By rights they got the overall #16 seed for their first game. By those same rights, they should have to face no better than the overall #8 seed in the second round. No. They get the overall #6 seed. Quinnipiac worked hard all year to earn the #1 ranking and seed, not #2 or #3. The #3 seed should face the #6 seed in the second round. The #2 seed should face the #7 seed in the second round. Quinnipiac is being treated like a #3 seed. All for the NCAA to get more money by trying to fill a rink. It ain't right.

It was less than 50/50, as only two crossover teams (more if the field were regionally imbalanced) went outside their own region.
