It goes in cycles, well that's my thought at least. I've been watching since the late 70s. Btw, I'm also not a fan of how the poster worded his comments. But I am loyal to the programs in West.
Northeastern hockey still hasn't won as many consecutive as the West, which has pulled off 6 in a row - twice - since 1978 & the pre BIG-NCHC WCHA still remains the only conference to field the entire Frozen Four . I wouldn't really give much to the West's streak between 1955-1966 (the game was still young). But no doubt, even as a Minny fan & a old school WCHA fan, actually liked the Northeast's current streak - good for regional balance. The sport needs more growth, we can all agree on that.
At least the Northeast's conferences are still intact. Still hard to believe that the once mighty WCHA won 5 in a row between 2002-2006 & none of those teams are current members.
I fear the NCHC is just getting started with dominance - you could see it coming here in Minnesota as soon as they announced the conference: great regional proximity and plenty of hockey royalty. But it will never match the passion and fun of the WCHA, pre-BIG/NCHC. Minnesota and Wisconsin are sorely missing from the excitement.
