The North Dakota Fighting Sioux vs. The Quinnipiac Braves

Re: The North Dakota Fighting Sioux vs. The Quinnipiac Braves

Congrats UND and fans. I hate your team (and Minnesota) as a UW fan but I respect the history and legacy of North Dakota hockey and always will. I also have much respect for the amazing players who've donned the green and white over the years and it's sometimes awe inspiring to think of just how many great players I've seen over the past 30-31 years of watching NCAA hockey regularly, especially as a fan of the triumvirate of hate!!!

Off the top of my head Hrkac, Commodore, Hoogsteens, Panzers, Parise, Archibald, Eades (what a ******!), Belfour, Blake, Bochenski, Zombo, Oshie, Zajac, yeah, you've had a few good players;) and coaches.

so salut.

now it's time for me to hit the thinner...

Re: The North Dakota Fighting Sioux vs. The Quinnipiac Braves

And part of 2 UND national championship teams! :)

And when asked (yes, my dad asked this):

Why didn't you play for the Gophers?
They didn't want me. (stern look)

/truestory

I don't care if he was UND, I loved me some Jon Casey goaltending.

Congratulations Hawks. It's been suggested to me that your win is a real victory for political correctness, but frankly I think it's for the birds.

It was interesting to me (and I'm serious about this) how ESPN didn't seem to avoid the shots of all the "Sioux" banners in the crowd. One would have thought that the NCAA would have "discouraged" that. It was actually kind of funny listening to Buccigross trying to tiptoe around that, saying "The North Dakota fans are chanting...." (and he wanted to say "Let's Go Sioux" but, instead, he just kind of trailed off...) I was actually almost surprised that they showed the National Anthem, as you KNEW that when they got to the last line everybody in the building was going to yell "Sioux" (which they did).

Re: The North Dakota Fighting Sioux vs. The Quinnipiac Braves

You are giving the NCAA far too much credit in regards to how much they care about this issue. Once all the silliness went away and UND once & for all officially dropped the Sioux nickname, the NCAA stopped caring about the issue at all. They had won and they moved on. I half believe UND could get away with wearing Sioux jerseys in the National Tournament and the NCAA would be like yeah whatever.

You're not totally serious, right? If your hypothetical scenario ever occurred, as soon as the first such jersey stepped on the ice, some activist group would have it all over social media and there would be a lawsuit the next day. You should live in the Northeast where these people are relentless and will never stop until they have controlled every aspect of our lives and taken away all of our freedom.

Re: The North Dakota Fighting Sioux vs. The Quinnipiac Braves

Why can't we just drop the "fighting" and call them the sioux? And be done with this charade. I don't see the outrage over the blackhawks logo. But of course this is the NCAA we're talking about. /end of rant. I know, it's been beaten to death.

Re: The North Dakota Fighting Sioux vs. The Quinnipiac Braves

No, I'm not. A few years ago the NCAA might have told ESPN to avoid Sioux jerseys and signs in the crowd, but now they've moved on. As long as UND doesn't officially do anything, and they won't, the NCAA no longer cares about this issue.

Re: The North Dakota Fighting Sioux vs. The Quinnipiac Braves

Forgot that nobody cares about fighting irish either. I am by no means a north dakota fan but the whole thing is absurd.

Re: The North Dakota Fighting Sioux vs. The Quinnipiac Braves

You guys are missing the point with all this political correctness stuff. Fact is that 7 of the last 9 champions have either been dogs or birds. The Bobcats never had a chance. I mean how would UND have faired against the DU Mountain Hawks? Terrible, I'd wager. Maybe even worse if they got in a regional with the Michigan Big Bluebirds or the Minnesota Golden Chihuahuas. 16 years of frustration, then one simple bird name and Bingo. I mean anybody without a soul could do it in this new age.

Proud to say at Wisconsin we are committed to discriminating against small omnivorous mammals no matter how much losing we have to endure!!!

Unless this is in fact right. Then hello WI Red Robins!:)

Re: The North Dakota Fighting Sioux vs. The Quinnipiac Braves

Congrats to UND.

Didn't watch them much this season but what I did see was impressive. Definitely the best two teams playing for the title.

Seems that I missed a little fun in here last night.

The way I see it, while not ideal, the Sioux winning another title will chap the **** out of Gopher fan *** and is therefore a good thing.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Especially when they're chapping my enemy's ***.

:D

Well done Sioux. And Sioux fan, don't hold back on Gopher fan. You know they wouldn't.

This is not the time for good sportsmanship or being magnanimous.

And finally, while I know that UND has us by a couple...

6 is still > than 5. ;)

:p:D

I think Melrose uttered Sioux a couple of times. Plus, what was ESPN going to do, not show any crowd shots as Sioux logos and signs were everywhere including the painted chest students?
