Re: The New WCHA IV (2013-14): Unlocked and Cocked

Well I guess that solves the dilemma of who has to travel to or from Alaska for tournament.

Such a reply is all too often the result when one indulges their empathy for another teams travails on a college hockey fan forum.

Well, best of luck to the Bobcats (or whatever kind of cat your team is named after) in Mankato.
Everyone should want to come to Alaska! I'm guessing your squad is just as happy to not be headed for Mankato as anyone is about not trying to get 27 people to Fairbanks at the last second.

Re: The New WCHA IV (2013-14): Unlocked and Cocked

What a great end to the season for the WCHA! Should be a great 1st round of playoff games.

I see Ferris, MSU,UAA, and Tech getting to Grand Rapids. From there, it's a guessing game. Who shows up in GR and plays well will win in GR. The auto bit could be any of the four teams that show up. I'm not sure UAA doesn't win the whole thing, but go Ferris!

Re: The New WCHA IV (2013-14): Unlocked and Cocked

Anyone happen to have the preseason finishing order handy to compare to results? Thanks

Does anyone know when the WCHA will release it's tentative conference schedule? Now that my Lakers are done for the year, I'm curious what next year will bring. It was released March 7 last season.

Jack Hittinger put that together. He won't tell me the name of the asshat that voted Bemidji #1, but he did tell me that it wasn't any Bemidji person.

We all missed on UAA. If they re-visited a media poll, Matt Thomas would get my #1 vote for Coach of the Year. Turning on a dime like that is hard, even if you do have some horses in the barn.

I've kept badgering our ASID about it (our schedule is done but they won't give it to me, but I also haven't asked for it). We think they're waiting until after the Final 4ive. Monday would be the perfect day to do it to keep the excitement rolling, but we'd have heard by now if that was happening.

I agree that right after the Final Five would be the pefect time to release the full composite schedule.

Re: The New WCHA IV (2013-14): Unlocked and Cocked

I'd be more comfortable with a composite schedule posted after Board Budget meetings this summer

Re: The New WCHA IV (2013-14): Unlocked and Cocked

The men’s WCHA has teamed up with America ONE Sports to forge a successful new partnership and conference-wide broadband initiative throughout the 2013-14 season. WCHATV powered by America ONE Sports enables fans everywhere to watch member team home games throughout the season live and on-demand, including all 140 conference match-ups.

The league and the four host teams are also making all first round playoff games available live and on demand for the first time ever via America ONE sports. Playoff games are priced at $9.

Viewers can access live games via portals at , , and through the official websites of league-member teams. Most games are also available in High Definition.WCHA.comamericaonesports.com

Oh, and the broadcast rights fees are $100 for radio and $1500 for TV.

$9 per game * 4 series * 3 games / series = $108. Let me throw $75 at you, WCHA, and I'll watch as much hockey as I can possibly stand. I'll watch Matt Wellens, Jack Hittinger, Kevin Gordon, and the various UAF tweeters let me know that Important Things Are Happening in This Game Right Now (i.e., someone's going on a power play), or that some game is uneven and probably not worth watching, and whatever. But I'm not going to a la carte $108 at the league.

They're missing out here. Media and scouts, at a minimum, would jump on a playoff pass. And I'm not even talking about the Final 4ive! I'm just talking about Thursday-Sunday.

**** it all to hell.

Per game.

I get that money is tight, but the way they're nickel-and-diming the people that support their league on this is embarrassing. If you want to save costs, stop flying the guy that killed the WCHA out of Denver every weekend.

Yowza, there's probably only what? 3 companies that'll pay the $1500 per game, GCI here, whoever in Mankato, and maybe Lakeland PTV in Bemidji?

I expect that's true. I have been badgering UAH about getting things going to put our video broadcast out on one of the secondary digital tuners. I mean, does our Fox affiliate really need to run that Adam 12 re-run? I know that we[sub]1[/sub] are leaving a lot of money on the table ourselves, but there's no way that we'd be able to get one of the local stations to broadcast the games. Hot holy ****.

That radio fee is the same one that the NCAA charges per game. I know, because I've paid it twice now.

GFM

[1] I can say that, as I'm the terrible PBP guy. I'm aware that I'm the worst one in the league. I'm also aware that my partner is even worse than I am and that the dozens of viewers that we have deserve to have someone that isn't drunk (no, really, he is) while doing the game. There's just not hockey PBP talent in the market. I'm as good as it gets without bringing in outside talent or just making it a student production. At this point, I'm ready for it to be a student production. I hate doing it and don't want to do it anymore. Hate it.

Re: The New WCHA IV (2013-14): Unlocked and Cocked

Yeah, and I'm not entirely sure GCI would pay the $4500 for the rights (or would they have pay $9000 to get both Anchorage and Fairbanks?).

Re: The New WCHA IV (2013-14): Unlocked and Cocked

What's the going rate for advertising and sponsorship? Depending, it could be easily a break even venture.

Re: The New WCHA IV (2013-14): Unlocked and Cocked

And businesses are in business to break even?

Meant that it could be a starting point. For example, if WLUC TV6 was profitable airing the MTU/NMU series, they could try again with a playoff game and potentially reap more profits by charging a slightly higher advertising rate for the playoff games... But if the NMU/MTU games weren't much more profitable over whatever crap programming got pre-empted on FoxUP, then obviously it wouldn't be worth it.

The only series I could see being attractive to advertisers would be the UAA - UAF series. And even then, I don't think it would break even with rights fees and production costs.
